Handbag question

So, I bought this new handbag at Kohl's the other day. I was drawn to the chain (which I have never had before but it does slip off my shoulder) I liked the texture of the stitching. I thought the beige color would be nice for spring. It is smaller than my current bag (which doubles as a diaper bag, so I think there's enough room to sneak in a few diapers.) and I really like the fold over styling. So, I was very surprised when I looked at the tag inside and it said 100%PVC. The price was $89.90 (I did not pay that much. I paid a much more respectable 100%PVC price IMO. It was less than $25) What do you think? Is $90 too much to pay for PVC? Am I overreacting? I was considering returning it (although I think I just resold myself on it while describing it) Would you keep it or return it?

I might be misunderstanding your question. IMO $90 is too much to pay for 100% PVC, but you didn't pay $90 for it, right? I looked at the pictures and I like the bag from what I can see. As long as it's not cheaply made (construction wise) or cheap looking (which it's not) then I say it's a keeper especially if you got it at a good price.

Hmm, I just recently bought a PVC bag under $30 which is ok but I wouldn't pay more than that. $90 is difinately way too much for PVC, imo but that's me. I prefer real leather overall. I think that your bag is nice looking and for $25 is worth keeping

Jewelle, I think I am ranting that it was $90. I just think that is too much for PVC. And debating returning it just on principle. It is a cute bag though . . . I like to hear your opinions

There are many vegan hand bags that are > $90 ... it depends on how it was put together, design, etc.

I saw a three hundred dollar Coach bag in the department store last weekend that was made out of nylon. It looked like someone had braided together some seat belts and dyed them. It was not my cup of tea. I read recently that Ellen Degeneres had Dooney & Bourke design a tote bag made 100% of non leather materials that she gave away to guests on her show. That little tote retails for over $200.

I say all that to say that lyn* is right, there are lots of non-leather bags that cost more than ninety dollars.

everything at Kohl's is marked wayyyyy up but then sold at a "sale" price. No, I wouldn't pay $90 for PVC, but you didn't...you paid $25 which was what they intended for you to pay. It's their wacky pricing gimmicks.

Good point Queen Mum. I picked up a nice leather handbag last season at a substantial discount (also at Kohl's). I just assumed it was leather.
This reminds me of another thread started today about handbags and paying for the brand. Maybe I should go double check the brand And do a closer inspection of the construction.
Overall, I think it is a cute little bag and a nice change for spring.

I agree with Queen Mum; Kohl's doesn't expect anyone to pay full price. Penney's has supposedly changed their pricing strategy, but since I'm rarely in a Penney's I don't know that I would be able to tell.

It looks like it's a Lauren by Ralph Lauren, and it should last you a season or two at least. If you really love it, keep it! I think $20-$30 is a fair price for PVC, but you're right, $80-90 is too much! You can get into the real leather category for that price!

So I double checked and it is from the Jennifer Lopez collection. It is fully lined with a faint logo pattern. What other things should I look for in a quality check?

I've never had a PVC bag last for more than a season so think they are pretty disposable, but that may just be the ones I've owned. Check to see how the chain/strap is attached and if you think it will hold up to the usual weight you put in the bag. Also, is the chain smooth enough that it won't catch and possibly snag your clothing?
