Hi all -- many of us are heartily sick of all the hand-washing this crisis requires. Just thought I'd check in with some things I've learned about hand-washing lately.

1. Soap and water and the friction of rubbing are what matter. Temp of the water doesn't matter, and anti-bacterial soap isn't better (this is a virus, not a bacterium). Soap, water, and friction for at least 20 seconds.

2. It works because viruses live inside a fatty coating, without which they die. The soap breaks down the coating.

3. If you're sick of singing Happy Birthday to time your hand-wash, the LA Times reports these alternatives, all of which last 20 seconds if sung at their original tempo:

The chorus from Prince's Raspberry Beret
The chorus from Beyonce's Love on Top
The chorus from Dolly Parton's Jolene
The chorus from Lizzo's Truth Hurts
  The chorus from Toto's Africa
The chorus from Fleetwood Mac's Landslide
The chorus from Eminem's Lose Yourself
The chorus from Belinda Carlisle's Heaven On Earth
The chorus from Culture Club's Karma Chameleon

Keep washing - we can do this.

Also, if you're gloving up for certain tasks, remember you can wash heartily with your gloves on, save your hands a little wear and tear, then dry and re-use the gloves.
