So I was in an aquatalia tear after Suz's glowing reviews of their anti weather properties. In this frenzy, I tried on these three from 6pm.com (digression--how did I not know about this most excellent site!) They were lined in snugly fleece and the heeled boot was dressy enough for conferences.

Ladies, I looked like I was smuggling Christmas hams in my boots. My calves + fleece lining = comedy.

I was just checking in quickly before leaving and am so glad I did! Sorry about the fit issue but you have me laughing out loud with your description! And guess where we're going? .... we're riding down to the PA BACON FEST!

quick note re 6PM, its owned by zappos, (which is of course owned by Amazon), so often you can find the same item on either of those 2 sites, albeit at a slightly higher price, but with better shipping and return options.

Ha! Well, I doubt very much if it looked as horrid as you say, but yeah, I would think that fleece-lined calves could be a bit of a thickener...

It is temporary, though. The fleece will eventually mat down I think.

Having said that, I do not own such a pair of boots.

BJ, I am LMAO (as my son says -- sorry, I know it's a bit crude) at your description. And yes, 6pm is a great place to buy, with the one drawback that you point out. And boots are so heavy to ship.

Skinny-calf serial boot returner here, feeling your pain. Most boots on me look like I'm trying to leave enough space to smuggle hams, or pack a bag lunch, so I have returned many a pair over the years.

Anyone thinking that skinny calves sound like a good problem to have, trust me when I say it's a frustrating one for boot lovers. This year I'm planning to mitigate with leg warmers and not be overly fussy about a half inch here or there.

Amen to everything April said. This year I plan to try leg warmers with boots too to try to fill the gap.

Hmmm, you should have posted a WIW because I doubt you looked like that! Also, with low-contrast bottoms, they were probably ok.

I could see these being very hot inside! It might be better to get a pair of real snow boots and a pair of dressy boots.

My La Canadiennes (kind of the same thing as Aquatalias and a little less expensive) have a very thin layer of thinsulate stuff and it actually warms things up a LOT.

I ordered Suz' short grey Aquatalias, but from Nordstrom. The grandpa sweater I posted a K/R I had to pay for return shipping. I broke my own rule, but I was so sure I'd love it..

Ha! Best title ever. Sorry the boots didn't work out. As others have said, in future if you find something on 6pm check for it on Amazon. You can usually get the same price with prime shipping (if you have Amazon prime) and free returns.

I love fleece lined boots. If you look around you can find inconspicuous ones, I promise! And even fluffy linings (like in my shearling lined bean boots) will mat down with wear.

@Suz and @smittie --my calves and I are at peace. I have no illusions about their size relative to the rest of me.

@smittie --based on your post, I'm now in a la canadienne rabbit hole.

@April and @Joy --yup...skinny calves don't have it any easier. Just a different problem to solve.

@JAileen --yes! Must have shopping rules of engagement. Barneys warehouse surprised me by giving me store credit instead of a refund. Then remembered why I never order from them despite the amazing prices.

LOL you are funny. I'm sure it wasn't as bad as you say. However, this is the reason I always prefer to try on clothing and shoes in a real store! You never know what something's going to look like until you try.

bj1111, you talk about ham smuggling like it's a bad thing. Who knows when a nice, juicy ham might be suddenly needed? If people think you have one on board, it could make you very popular!

Too funny! I was kind of enamored of 6pm till I had to return my first purchase, too. Rude awakening! I did eventually get over it and make another purchase, but it was one that I felt very confident about.

Oh this is too funny! Reminds me of my original Bad Boyfriend back in London years and years ago. He was thoroughly disreputable in almost every way but he was a fantastic cook. One time he bought a pound knocked off fillet steaks from this retired East End gangster who fenced stolen goods. The dealer was a leftover from the era of the Kray Twins and the Great Train Robbery, but the steaks were perfectly fresh and quite delicious.
