ETAA: So the pile lined sweats are a huge success. I bought her the women's XS and a boys XL since the inseam seemed about right. She's about 5'. The women's style is more flattering but they are equally warm and the length of the boys is a little better. The ultra warm Heattech is also a winner. I will be picking up a few more and recommend sizing up. I bought her S but she said she'd like a M since she's wearing it more like a shirt than an undershirt. The heated Sunbeam blanket is also very toasty--I think we have the "staying warm" issue handled for now. Thanks for all of your suggestions!!

ETA: didn’t make it to a Uniqlo but I asked my mom whether she wanted to try a warmer pant like the ones in the photos and I think she’s cold enough to try them out. Are these the ones that many of you have suggested?

Those of you who run cold - what is the best way to stay warm in the house in winter? We live in a 2 story and we've moved my 90 year old, 90 lb. mom in down stairs. The house is insulated but it's not feasible to keep her area at her preferred temperature - 75 to 78 degrees. I've bought her the light weight Uniqlo long sleeves but am now wondering if I should buy her the extra warm ones. Most of the day, she sits and watches tv, reads or plays scrabble on the Ipad. She does get up and can do a few things on her own with her walker but for the most part - sedentary, with a blanket on her lap. Do you think layers is the way to go or perhaps a space heater? She wears jeans but doesn't want long johns beneath them. I'm not sure if insulated pants or joggers would be warmer? She loves the heated seats in the car - I'm not sure if they make those for home use or whether that's even a good idea? She's so sedentary that I'm not sure she even generates enough body heat to make layers work especially with very low body fat? I'm open to suggestions here and am planning to go to Uniqlo at lunch. Thanks in advance!
