Halogen Taylor pants - any fit tips

I'm desperately in need of new work trousers. I used to be a fan of Express Editors but either my body has changed or the fit has changed, because I can't wear the newer styles. I'm looking at the Halogen Taylors as an alternative. Does anyone have insight about whether these will work for pear-shapes? My thighs are quite ... generous ... and the hardest area for me to fit. Hips are a close second. I'm not hourglassy enough to wear most curvy fits, I've found.

I'm also considering some Vince Camutos.

Trousers are a work staple for me, but man, I HATE buying them. I've been searching for months and can't find the right fit. Being in-between sizes doesn't help. I wish I could convince myself to be a skirt-and-dress person but I'm just more comfortable in pants, when they fit right.

I don't have any insight on the Halogens, alas, but I do know that some here have found success with Banana Republic and I think it is Martin fit. Check out Sveta's and Diana's posts on this for more information.

The 'Taylor' pants are supposed to be for a curvier body, so they could work for you. I've had several pair of Halogen Whitney, which are for straighter bodies and they approximate the BR Martin fit, which is usually perfect on my straighter lower body. Many of the Nordstrom pant cuts don't work for me because of too much fullness at the hip (even though I do have thighs that count.)

I know what you mean about the difficulty of finding pants that fit. So glad now there are a variety of fits to choose from.

Have you tried the different Ann Taylor pant styles? How about Theory? They are more expensive, but my experience is that once you find the right fit, the pants wear very well and last for years--well, the lightweight wool ones, that is. For years I had one pair of dress pants--black wool Theory's that I could wear year-round in the SF Bay area.

The VCs look nice--I have never tried a pair on.

Hm, you might try the BR Sloans, too, if you used to like the Editors. Especially since you say you are not hourglassy enough for most curvy fits. My waist is not very different from my hips, and I love those pants! An Angie rec. The fabric is stretchy enough to accommodate a caboose and thighs, but thick enough that it doesn't look like sweatpant fabric.

The Taylors are going to have a higher rise than the Editors, and the leg style depends on which Taylors. They make a classic leg that pretty much goes straight down from the hip, as well as tapered cuts.

I tried the Halogen Taylor pants at NAS and they were really baggy on someone with no hips to fill them out. I'd say they are made for someone with curves.

I have a lot of trouble finding pants because usually, if they fit in the thighs and low hip, they are much too big in the waist, bum, and high hip. My new favorites are the Theory Emery trousers (although most Theory pants don't work on me at all).

They are expensive but good value.

Suz, I wore Martins about 10 years ago but haven't tried them recently. I seem to remember that the rise was never quite right and they pulled through the hips. But my body is different now, so maybe they'd work.

MsMavin, I might need to check AT again. I've had mixed success with LOFT's Marisa fit, but it completely depends on the fabric. The thicker fabrications look great; the thinner ones look like clubwear on me. The Julies are an example of a curvy fit that doesn't work for me.

Rae, I will give the Sloans a try. I remember trying them on several years ago and thinking they were too tight for the office, though they'd look great in other situations. Perhaps sizing up would do the trick.

Cinnamon, thanks for throwing out another option. They're a little rich for my blood at this stage in life, but maybe I'll catch them on sale someday.

I just tried Halogen Taylor in the gray plaid, and the fit was off, for me. I have about a 12" difference in waist and hip and also need thigh ease. Some of the newer "straight leg" AT fit better. Disappointed , because I was looking for subtle patterns.
I may like the Zanella Goldie, though.

Eddie Bauer corduroys in the curvy fit are great for a couple of my friends who are pretty pears. You might try their dress pants. I used to wear their straighter cut pants for work, and I found them of reasonable price and quality.
