Halogen pleat midi skirt in stripe

I ordered the skirt in two sizes to be sure it fits and saw it today at Nordies. The fabric looks shiny, it would probably work well for a special occasion. How would you style it and wear it for "normal" daily wear or for work in a semi-conservative office? I am a bit stumped with this one and if I keep it I must be sure it does not become an orphan. I do not want it to be for special occasions only.

It's such a gorgeous skirt.

Black or white or neutrals with it, and possibly a blazer that works with the proportions seem safe bets for conservative office wear. On the website the model is wearing it with a pale chambray shirt tucked in which also seems like a more casual way to wear it, or any solid color button up shirt. Her black and white shoes are killer with it, but I think a variety of shoes that pair well with flared midi's could work.

Angie, because it looks like a fun skirt and I need to tame it down for work, so I am wondering if it is too shiny for routine wear. So far I got the Eileen Fisher crewneck in different colors to see what works

because for me to wear it for work it needs to be styled a bit less fun than in your blog. I know I need to make it a bit boring but that's how it is.
I do love the styling suggestions on your blog, but for fun occasions.

What a world we live in...we must take a "fun" skirt and make it more boring for work! Ha ha. But I know what you mean.

I liked Rabbit's suggestion of any tailored, solid, crisp button-down, tucked. And I wonder about wearing a more-fitted solid knit untucked. That would cover up some of the skirt and make the shine less prominent. I think you could probably also do a very plain solid shirt, tucked, with a black or white cardigan over the top.

For shoes, I suppose you would want to stick with something pretty conservative. Maybe nude kitten heels?

Thanks for understanding, Gigi. I am trying hard not to buy clothing for an imaginary lifestyle so I need to be sure that the skirt will work for daily routine dressing, boring but that's what it is.
I have too much weekend clothing already.
I will keep all the suggestions in mind.

What about a JCrew Tippi sweater -- in any color? Its 3/4 sleeve and simple cut would be great and also have a little retro vibe (think Grace Kelly) and could be dressed up with heels or down with flats. You could also wear it untucked for a slouchy look (less dressy, less shine) or tuck it in and belt it for more polish and defined waist. Versatile.

I saw that skirt on a mannikin last week. The shininess combined with the wide stripes and fullness make it a real stand-out, memorable piece. I think I would find it quite a challenge to wear to work unless I worked in the fashion or other artsy industry. The other challenge is to make the wearer the boss of the skirt rather than the other way around. It is truly a drool-worth skirt, so I was relieved to see that my size is out of stock.

DonnaF, I just got the skirt today and I think you are absolutely right. I don't work in fashion or art, either, so it seems that I will either keep it for fun occasions or just return it. Now I know why Angie called it "a lot of skirt".
I will hang on to it for a little bit and see what I can come up with, probably copying from Angie's post.

Thanks, Angie, I tried the skirt on with a button down blouse and it looks very nice.
I already ordered the skirt in black as well because it's easier to style but now with all the great advice I am feeling that I can pull it through with the striped skirt. Thanks for all the great ideas!
