Halloween dressing, anyone? Photos added.

Good morning and Happy Halloween!
Do you participate in any Halloween events, wear a costume, pass out candy?
Although it is not my favorite, today will be a big day at school. We do a parade through town. It is a much anticipated and well loved community event. The streets are shut down and businesses close while we are enroute so everyone can line the sidewalks and cheer as the band and all the kids go by. Many of the people who live and work in town wear costumes. We even have our own local Batman. He does not save his costume for Halloween only. He is a local phenomenon. He will be at the parade, for sure. The nursery schools and daycare centers bring all their children to watch and yes, they are all in costume, too!
I will be wearing an orange turtleneck, black jeans and a knit moto jacket to work, but this afternoon will transform into a butterfly for the parade.

Mainlady, I love when everyone shows their spirit in school by dressing up. Our school has decided that no one will wear costumes because not everyone can afford them and too many of our kids are dressing as violent characters from their favorite video games, They tend to get very restless when they are dressed in costumes. Instead, are all wearing pajamas! For whatever reason, pajama days seem to work out well with our kids. They like it and there are fewer problematic behaviors. I have my pajamas and a fun Natori kimono style robe picked out and ready for after my Pilates class this morning. Slippers too! I need a stuffed animal, so I may raid DS bedroom!

I had previously planned a costume but now I will wear it for dressing up to hand out candy. My costume idea was to be the tin man, and my nurse was going to be the scarecrow, the psychologist was going to be Dorothy. I love that the tin man is all heart, and says that he needs one! The pictures below are the model for my costume.

Our school dresses up for Halloween and, if the weather cooperates - it’s raining right now, we’ll have a costume parade around the school grounds where parents line the route to see their cutie and snap some pics. Your town’s parade sounds like a lot of fun!

I’m going as a bear. We’re not sure if it’s a panda (DD’s opinion) or polar bear (DH’s opinion). It’s basically an adult onesie!

Tonight is DH’s turn to take DD trick or treating so I’ll stay in costume to hand out candy. Thankfully the rain is supposed to stop by this evening.

Actually, it was pretty quiet.

I didn't dress up, but I did see a couple dressed as a mad doctor and a patient in a straitjacket.

...God, I hope they were doing dress up !

I was going to wear Halloween colors but we got snow last night and it is cold. I need to plan a costume around a puffer coat to go see grandchildren ( baby owl and a hedgehog) and to hand out treats and run errands.
Any easy puffer coat ( black or whitish) and boot ideas for a costume?

I’m volunteering at the thrift store this afternoon. I signed up for Halloween on purpose. It’s fun to help people put together last minute costumes.

I will be handing out candy tonight. My husband will be keeping the dogs under control. They go berserk when the doorbell rings. I give more candy to the smaller kids and kids with good costumes. To teens who didn’t even bother with a costume I ask them, “Aren’t you kind of old for this?” Then I give then one small piece of candy. I don’t want them to egg my house, after all.

Taking DS trick-or-treating tonight; he decided he wanted to be Dory, so I made some yellow felt fins and some big felt eyeballs and stuck them on an old blue jacket. He's quite happy with his costume, as it's warm and easy to wear.

They are not supposed to wear costumes at his preschool, but they make hand-held masks as an art project (this way no one is jealous or scared of anyone else's costume) and do a small parade on Halloween day. Their mask theme this year is woodland animals; last year it was vegetables!

I get my fill of costumes doing theatre, so I'm terribly boring when it comes to Halloween. The past two years, I've worn a gorgeous vintage red wool cape (Harvé Benard (!), handed down to me from a dear friend) and carried a picnic basket to pull off an easily recognizable Little Red Riding Hood. Warm and wearable! Plan to do the same again tonight. If I have time, I'll grab a photo.

Halloween has become the biggest holiday in our family. Every year we choose a theme and shoot a family photo. We have done KISS, super heroes, Star Wars, scooby doo, and Star Trek. The kids trick or treat as characters of their choice. I have put together most of our costumes from thrifted clothing. Here is one of my favorites

I threw together a Scottish-esqe outfit for work today. I was limited by the fact that it’s supposed to rain hard (and maybe hail) so waterproof footwear was important.

Sounds like fun. I went to a Halloween party this weekend and had a blast dressing up. I do hand out treats but don’t get too many kids anymore because they have more and more events around town. Or maybe trick or treating is just not as popular as it used to be. Whoever shows up in a costume at my door gets a treat, even the dogs.

I try to get into the spirit at least a little bit. We had one new employee dress up at work this year... I think one of the practical jokers must have said that it’s tradition. (Not me.)

This year it’s my favorite Halloween scarf (although I wear it all fall because I like the colors) and sparkly green nails. Throw in an extra smoky eye for a little fun! I’ll be passing out candy tonight.

We have a party at work this afternoon. Usually, people dress in some kind of homemade costume relevant to our work (environment) or current events. I don't have that kind of time, since I'm leaving town tomorrow.

So I'm wearing black jeans and boots, and then throwing on my red trench coat, black leather gloves, plus a red hat I had from doing the same costume years ago. This will more or less make me Carmen Sandiego. I'll get a picture later on.

Our next-door neighborhood goes in big for Halloween with a street party and tons of decorations, so our street is pretty quiet. I typically find a low-key dressup option for the day, and then pull out a costume for the street party.

Today's daytime winner was a new sweatshirt from Modcloth.

I’m wearing my orange dress with black cardigan, tights, and boots but that’s about it. No plans for the holiday really, and we don’t get trick or treaters because we live in an apartment building.

These are so fun!! With the nest empty, DH and went to our first Halloween party in many years a few nights ago. We had a blast. I even made Jello shots with gummy worms in them.

I copied some online photos of Andy Warhol's art and used my my old vinyl cutter and my new Easy Press to adhere the design to the top of a red boys t shirt which I sewed to the bottom of a white t. The earrings and Andy's lapel pin are shrink plastic. No one knew my costume was homemade. Now I am looking for more things to adhere heat transfer vinyl to.

I “retrofitted” an old blue hoodie for my older one to be his Team Mystic Pokémon Go avatar. He was thrilled with the result. My DH is out doing the rounds with the kids, and I’m handing out candy. We get tons of traffic, and I love seeing all the kids.

Mainelady, thank you for the puffin idea. I did manage to throw on my faux fur vest and a fleece bear cap ( size Toddler 4-5). Yes I do have a small head. It was a brown bear, so I wore chocolate jeans and turtleneck and boots. Not the greatest but at least I tried.
