Stagiaire Fash

First pic is Half my usual make-up on each side of my face. Second pic is full coat on both sides. What do you think? My son claims not the see any difference, even staring at my face.

I see a dif in the pictures but it could be all be in my mind. The dif looks to me like heavier lipstick and bronzer. What products do you actually use?

On one half my face I have cover-up under my eye, a touch of eyeliner under my eye, lip liner and lipstick. The other side has bronzer under one cheekbone (a teeny bit of contouring) and on my brownbone/ just under my eyebrow.

I find it hard to tell except for the lipstick. I like that shade on you.

I do like your hair like this - very cool and casual. They are both very nice photos.

I would love to be able to do my make-up as you do yours - so subtle. I was not born with the make-up gene and, despite decades of practising, wear mascara and nude lipstick when I need to be "all dressed up". Best wishes to all.

Thanks Lana. Every member of my family—mom, dad, & all kids—have exactly the same.

ViolettMara, what do you wear in daily life? There isn’t much difference for me between this every day look & “all dressed up”.

I’m confused which pic people mean when they say “good shot”. Am going to guess it’s the one that’s not halfsies. I appreciate the compliments though!

There is a slight difference but it’s very subtle and you wouldn’t notice unless you stared hard. You look lovely in both photos. Your hair style looks very nice too.
On a side note, I don’t wear makeup usually but I was very tired so put a smudge of eye liner and mascara on and a male colleague came up to me and asked me if I was wearing eyeliner? That weirded me out. I prefer people not to notice.

I notice the lipstick and it looks good. I say you can ditch the rest. I mostly only wear lipstick and fill in my eyebrows with pencil.

Star, it’s crazy how little difference the coverup makes. I have always had dark circles under my eyes, really notice when they’re not covered up irl, but the Bobby Brown I’m wearing here is the most covering I’ve found (Estee lauder & Tarte are also good, imo) but here it’s hardly visible—the folds are much more noticeable.

RL, i did. my best—they were taken just a few minutes apart, same spot, same editing. I just wish my eyes would both be open. That’s also a hereditary thing. The “bronzer” is actually powder eyeshadow, a fairly dark shade of brown with some sparkles. Not sure it matters on my cheeks, but when I put it on my brows, it feels like it makes them “open up”. I really do need to work on the photography.

I have discovered that a pink toned color corrector does much more for my dark circles than any concealer ever did- and it's easier to use. ymmv, but wanted to pass that on.

My initial reaction is that I like the first photo a smidge better. Your skin looks a bit warmer/glowier and your eyes seem a bit brighter. Off to read the post to see what the difference is!

The unfortunate reality is that make-up for RL and make-up for photography are often two completely different things - so it can be really hard to tell when someone is wearing a ‘natural’ or ‘me-but-better’ application of make-up - especially if you use a flash feature. In other words, you need to lay it on pretty thick for it to show up at all in photos.

I’m picking up a really pretty lip, and some nice contouring - on my monitor (iPad). Maybe keep these as part of your make-up routine?

My lashes are transparent so I dye them, and use mascara - black - nothing natural about it at all! I do brows too. I struggle with drawing a nice lip, and getting lippy colour right. My sunscreen is mineral based and does a nice light job of evening out my skin tone, which is pale. When my rosecea was bad, I used a Smashbox green colour corrector and it was magic!

Have fun. Keep experimenting. Ignore the comments from the peanut gallery!

Carla, thanks for commenting. I’ve always been natural (hair, body, nails, you name it), so it’s been a surprise that lately I prefer a little makeup. Good point about photography, even using natural light from a window like this, not showing Make-up as it looks irl.

Dear SF, I don't wear make-up unless I'm going somewhere 'dressy' and then it's just the nude lipstick and mascara . . . that will do me. Best wishes to all.

VioletMyra, that was me for decades. The very same make-up as you, plus concealer under my eyes. I still don’t like the idea of looking like I have make-up on. I want to use it to slightly improve the way I look, but not at all to look “made-up”!
