My work party this year has a masquerade ball theme. I am borrowing a mask, and wearing a dress from the 90s so am splurging in getting my hair done.

I have been researching styles to wear with masks and I think the best will be a low updo, so the mask straps tie above it. It will need to be very stable, because my hair apt is in my lunch break and the party in the evening.
I would love to hear thoughts from anyone who has dressed for a similar occasion.

(note that I am in a part of Australia with no community transmission of covid and no mask mandate, and yes, I can see the irony of the dress theme! )

Fun! A l-o-n-g time ago, when formal office parties were still a thing, I recycled a dress, and splurged on an updo! Highly recommend it!

The bottom right gets my vote. More classic and ‘done’ than the others, and I think works better with your dress, which has very clean lines.

I was going to pick #4 for sure, and I see Carla has just done the same. It looks the prettiest and most “done” ( formal) to me.
What a tiny waist! Your dress really shows it off.

Another vote for #4! You mentioned #2, but what does your mask look like? If it's a little elaborate then you might want to keep the hair simpler in the front (#4), so as not to compete. I presume #4 may be easier to execute with your natural hair texture too?

YLF in that dress though, wow! That sweetheart neckline suits you too

What about your glasses? I agree with Zaeobi that it might help to see your mask on. My daughters have both been to masquerade events but I never have so can’t really help there.

Zaeobi - yes hair simple in the front for sure. I'll take some mask photos tonight and put them up.
Funny to see you mention the sweetheart neckline. I liked them in the late early 90's and my high school friends used to think they weren't a good choice for someone of my lack of endowment! (this dress is from 1996 - some time later

Jenni - definitely no glasses. I learnt that recently on while wearing a mask for something else. I tried out contacts for the first time in years on the weekend and it was quite strange. I'm used to propping my glasses on to my head for a close up view and I couldn't do that with contacts. I'll put up with that for a night though.

I think you will look fantastic Anne, I also like the idea of the low bun but wonder if it should be worn to the side (on the opposite side to the sweep of the mask) for balance.

No experience here, but I wanted to say how fabulous that dress is on you. I like the idea of a low bun, too. #2 really appeals to me, but I have no idea how well it would hold. Maybe French braids around the sides to the back would help to keep it in place throughout the day and evening?

On the contacts, I’ve taken to wearing only 1. Usually my stronger eye. Then I have distance and near vision. Reading is still a challenge but who’s reading at a party.

Such fun to put all these pieces together! 1 & 4 are my favorites of the ‘dos, but I expect you and the hairdresser will work out something that’s best suited to your hair that day.

So here's the hairdo. Family said it looked good.
Pics with and without the mask. Masks tended to come off or go on foreheads after the first hour of the party but quite a good night (I lasted three hours which is pretty much my limit!)

You look stunning, even more gorgeous with your hair and fab mask. I love your make up too, very soft and pretty and does not complete with the mask.

It is funny with balls, people either love them or hate them. I really enjoy them, but for my DH, he considers they are a special form of hell.
