I understand your frustration. I have a cowl lick in the front, so I can't wear bangs; they always look like they've been cut crooked. After my fine (but not thin) straight hair reaches a certain length, it flips out on one side in the front and on the opposide side in the back. This makes it impossible to have any type of style that's supposed to either curl under or flip out. Why? Because the areas of my hair that flip out will not curl under, and the parts that do not flip out will not flip out. This is true no matter what styling products or appliances (such as curling irons) I use. During 2011, I grew my hair out as long as possible without going past the length where it starts going weird on me. That length? Right at the bottom of my earlobes. Right now I have what I'm calling a layered bob without bangs. I part my hair on the side and it flips back nicely, without me having to use any styling products. Near my ear, I had my hair stylist cut it in such a way that my earrings show. Also, the back is short and stacked. I think this is the best haircut I've had in ages, and am so happy. No blow drying. No hair spray or gel or mouse. No curling iron. Just wash, let dry naturally and go.
