I managed to get in to deal with my roots! I was jonesing for a style change but my stylist scolded me because I always say I'm growing it out, then get bored and chop it, then wish I hadn't. So we settled for chopping off the back and leaving the front in a long choppy bob.

Next time I may go to the cut pictured in 2. Also including another cut I've pinned which may or may not be appropriate for my face.

Any suggestions welcome!

I'm not going to be of much help, being a grow-out, chop off and repeater myself. I'm done with the growing out now, and am committed to shorter and choppier. Love both - go for it!

I sure like what I see of it as you have it now. But you could certainly go for something like #3 which is really cute from the front but would you get tired of the wisps getting in your eyes and face?

You look beautiful! Very nice cut. I like the "future" cuts you've pinned, but #2 much more than #3. I've had something like #3 a few times and unless I'm really careful to keep it a little shaggy and wild, it tends to turn into a bit of soccer mom helmet head, and that's even with my slightly wavy hair. So, my person experience with hit has given me a smidge of a poison eye for it. Maybe just a jaundiced eye. Your hair is pretty straight, isn't it? You also have a lot of hair? It might work much better for you because of you'd have enough volume to highlight the texturing.

I like the new cut and the color. Very nice. I love both of those sample cuts and am wearing a version of No. 3 image right now. And I am constantly fighting with the long bang falling into my face, interfering with my glasses and being a giant sweaty mess when I work out. It looks cute for about 10 minutes but IRL I am probably going to chop off the long bangs, which for me are not quite long enough to stay behind my ears. My face shape and hair color are very close to the woman in Image 3. My heart longs for a cute, sassy, edgy cut, but my lifestyle says "either grow it into a pony tail or cut it off because you cannot deal with this."

It looks to me like #2 would not be a big leap from where you are now -- it's a similar shape, just shorter and a little more dramatic. I could see it working really well for you.

Oh, there are times I so want to do something edgy with my hair, but this wavy stuff on my head just doesn't do "edgy" well!

K.P., thank you for that info! You are right, short hair is quick to get frumpy. And everyone pointing out the log bangs annoyance is spot on, especially because my hair grows forward, not back. Nebraskim, have you ever posted a pic?

Yes, lots of straight hair, and this color is actually a very dark navy blue but looks surprisingly like my natural shade.

I LOVE your current cut. I'm trying for something similar but I need to keep my back a bit longer so the angle of mine is not as dramatic as yours. And mine wants to go round (turned under a bit) at the ends. I would love for mine to look as edgy and choppy as yours at the ends.

I actually prefer your cut to #2. The third one looks cool but not very practical. I couldn't stand to have it in my eyes like that.

Susie, I sometimes use a flatiron to get the ends to stop curling under, which happens when they hit my shoulder. Also it is harder to show texture with dark hair but my stylist is some kind of genius... This is right after seeing her and it will never look this way again!

Love what you did, and LOVE #2.
Yes, short hair can go frumpy. Currently dealing with the damage of too layers that are too short and look like hell. I'm in growing mode just to get it cool looking again. Ugh.

Love the cut as is and also number 2. 3 looks edgy and fun, but I'm useless as to whether it would work with your face shape.

Love the cut! And not just because it's, essentially, the straight version of mine I think #2 would work if you're jonesing for shorter, but I rather like the longer 'do for now.

Your cut/color are straight out of a fashion mag'. Freaking fabulous. I always love angled or inverted bobs. I really like the other two cuts as well and from what I can see I think both would work. Between #2 and #3 that 2 is ultimately my favorite, though.

I'm going for a curly version (I kid you not!) of #2 but need to grow my front longer. Bangs to the end of my nose shrink to above my eyebrows!

Of course I'm going to love it, since that's same cut I have, only much longer! I love it for a lot of reasons. It gives me height at crown, and at 5'0 I sure need the extra height. It adds tons of fullness, giving illusion of more hair than I actually have (my hair is quite thin AND fine). Also I've got short arms so it's a pain to meticulously blow dry the back of my hair straight! When kept super short in the back, it takes just a minute or two. Or I can skip it and go all "bed head" in the back.

I have had it so short my ears are cut out (like your pic 2) but I prefer still having some length in front which frequently just ends up being tucked behind the ears. However I have quite a soft chin, so I prefer the longer version, at least as long as chin line, if not a tad longer -- more flattering side view for me.

As for your pic 3 with a bit of bang, I can't do that at all. I have tried, but if cut shorter than my cheekbone, my bangs curl and curl and cowlick and require major hair product to lay flat. So I just keep the front chin length; the extra weight keeps them from getting unruly!

I think your hair is thicker than mine though? Mine is baby fine.

How are you parting it? Center or side?

Una, I love your cut! And I think you would look gorgeous in either of the shorter ones. They actually look a lot alike to me, except the second one seems to be layered a little more around the face.
Runcarla, thanks for the photos--I may need to take those in to my hairdresser. I think I've actually had a version of the second one--it just looks very different on my head--LOL!

Shiny, I part slightly to the side (one side of my hair is naturally thicker too!), or sometimes do a zigzag part. I love the back short because I can't stand hair on my neck so it has to be pulled back or cropped. My hair is like a pelt so she actually has to thin it with a razor!

I love your do which suits petite you to a T. Good to know about the bangs. Obviously they are like this Card Against Humanity...

Hah all the curly versions are fun! I cannot make my curls behave so well though. Carla, the second image you posted looks like it'd be great for a soft curl or wavy haired gal; the effect with more curly hair isn't going to be quite the same especially in back. Una, the three you posted are fabulous but those all look like straight haired gals to me The third one could be fun with curlier curls!

I have a version of this hair style. I cut my blunt shoulder length hair at the very beginning of summer to accommodate an active lifestyle. As it turns out, this style is beyond wonderful. I think you are going to love this style. Let us know after you have lived with it for a while.

I really think that I prefer your current cut. I think that the extreme length difference is super edgy. The second pic is as well, so I think that would look great on you... but there is just something more sharp about the edge to it now. I agree with others about the third one - that hair in the face would get annoying, and without it, you might get a "mom bob". That's my two cents. You look awesome!

ooooh! I love your new cut, I love your potential cuts, I love Carla's and Aida's examples...I would like to see you try somewhat shorter in front like your #2 but the growing out cycle is a drag. And you do look fab as is of course!

My thoughts are: if you've got longer hair in front , but long enough in back to pull into a pony, you can do ANYTHING! Updo, off the face, whatever.

Short, shorn back, is great for comfort, and sporty girls, and the length in front keeps the look feminine, but it is more of a challenge. Straight haired girls have to manage the whisps in the face (do you tuck behind the ears?) curly girls, do you flat iron or deal with unruliness?

Don't want to high-jack Una's thread. But boy-oh-boy do I appreciate the pics for curly cutting edge style!
