Hi Fab Ladies!

I cannot express how much I appreciate you all and how touched I am that so many of you took the time to comment on my new hair post.

The cut has been a dramatic change for me, even though it may not seem that much different to everyone else:). Exposing my face more, has been the catalyst for some harsh self assessment and an internal dialogue that has gone something like this... The shorter do makes me look old.....I look like my mum...when I'm tired it really shows...I don't think I look feminine....blah blah blah! I don't share this for any response but more to just be open and transparent about my own inadequacies:).

But your kind and generous comments have moved me from being so self critical to try and see what you see and after a week and a half, I am really feeling good about it.

But, I feel I'm not there yet with the style. It's still cut in a pretty traditional bob which feels to heavy and drab, and I'm not enjoying pushing my hair behind my ears. I also feel I would like a little more hair around my face, so I'm booking in this week for some tweaking. Keeping the long lengths but some layering and shaping.

#3 and 4 are more what I'm aiming for with the "tweaking"

I must have missed the new hair post but I really like your new cut, Deb. It is a big change to reveal one's face but I don't think it is aging. Opposite, I think it makes you look younger and brings more attention to your beautiful face.
I think you should go for a more dramatic and edgy cut: it will go well with your strong edgy style. Have you considered ore pronounced asymmetry or angled bob?

I think it will look lovely on you-- most mums aren't wearing bobs like that, but I think the new look will be great. Jenna Elfman and you are gonna be twins!

Honestly, I think you look younger. However I do see hoe the more jagged cut may feel ore like you. it'll be wonderful no matter what you do!

Deb, I must have missed the original post but I think your new hair is great! Looks quite edgy and sophisticated to me. Like Sveta, I also thought of something asymmetrical for you.

I think it looks great as is, but it's not my hair. :^) And you've certainly given yourself time to adjust, so I wouldn't feel bad about wanting some tweaks. I can't wait to see the post-tweak pix!

I also think that your new do actually makes you look younger and slims your face. The inspiration photos for tweaking also look very promising. Do what makes you feel fabulous because you are.

You know, when I saw the original post about your new cut I thought, it is a younger looking cut. It is trendier and it makes you look younger. But I didn't want to say that because I didn't want you to think the old style made you look older. However reading your concerns I was so surprised, as I really thought the opposite, so I thought I should speak up.

Deborah do you have thick hair to sustain such a cut? I'm afraid if I tried something like this I would look immediately mousey as my hair is very fine and getting thinner all the time as I age. I don't have bald spots but thinner my hair is, especially with a side part. I suspect I would need to add a lot of product to texturize my hair into a modern style like this, but I'm silently researching and learning from others.

I think the new cut makes you look younger, so there!

I"ve gone through the same process with shorter cuts--look less feminine, makes me look like Mom, blah blah. So I let it grow out, but lately I've been fantasying a short cut. The #3 and #4 photos are gorgeous and you aren't so far from them. I dream of such a look, but my hair is fine with no body, etc. I say go for it. Keep tweaking. The hair will always way grow again if in the long run it doesn't work for you.

(Wondering if my hairdresser can do that same cut on me.)

I love the cut as is, but I've always thought that Jenna Elfman had an amazing short cut. It's important to feel fab, and short cuts often take a bit of tweaking.

Personally, I love your new cut, although Jenna Elfman in pics 3 & 4 has a fab cut, too. It looks to me like you have plenty of body in your hair to do well with the cut in the inspiration pics, and I also think it might be slightly softer than tucking it behind the ear (not that the current cut is at all harsh). Either way, I don't think you can go wrong. We are always the most critical of ourselves, but I guarantee you that no one else sees "older", or "less feminine" when looking at you. As for looking like your mum, she must be a very pretty woman.

I also love your new cut and echo what the others say re it not being at all aging or harsh on you. However I also really like your inspiration pics, and think those would look great too. There's not a lot of difference.

I'm due for another cut soon, and am going yo take both your cut and Jenna's cuts to my stylist to se if they will work on me. :).

I think you look wonderful in the new cut. It highlights your amazing eyes. I also think you'd look lovely in the (very similar) inspirations, and I also think you'd look lovely in an even more dramatic cut if you wanted to go in that direction. I can see the virtue of both paths -- the dramatic cut would be consistent with the rest of your style. But on the other hand, the more traditional style offers an interesting juxtaposition to your style. So either way, you win!

First of all Deborah I truly love the new cut, and suspect I will love the tweaks also. I think it is exactly in line with how your style has evolved and suits you perfectly.

I did relate to your feelings with shorter hair. Last year when I cut all my hair off and stopped coloring it it was quite a shocker. I felt super exposed and saw my mother in my face too in a spooky way. Anyway, my hair is somewhat longer now but still short and looking back I have no regrets. My hair now seems so much more me than the old way. I suspect you will feel the same sooner rather than later.

Sveta, I have had a lot of different versions of a bob over the years and I have had it cut with a concave, and also asymmetrical:) I really liked it but I think I need a change from the bob. The asymmetric bob is now SO popular, where as once it was a little unique:(

I find Im at the awkward stage in life where I know I am no longer 'young' but I'm also not yet 'old' lol and while my intention is not to look younger, hearing that the change in hair cut might make me look younger isn't a bad thing to hear LOL. And very valid questions re hair type. I have fine hair but I have masses of it So my hair actually works extremely well with shorter cuts. So while it is not technically thick hair it tends to always look like it has a lot of volume cos there is so much of it.

MsMaven, words of wisdom:) You are right, it will always grow back if I don't like it

Echo, that is a lovely thing to say. My mum is indeed lovely and I think it's just that mother / daughter thing... silly.. but.

Suz, you know I love drama:) I find I am torn between just doing what I want, which could very well be buzz cut most of my hair leaving a long swept fringe (a la Odyssey), and what I think suits my lifestyle. Jenna's do looks modern to me but still soft and in my line of work, along with my church work, I feel it is important to look approachable. I also live in a conservative town:)

Shevia, I really appreciate your input as someone who has recently gone shorter. I think I am going to find I feel the same way. I am quite excited.

I think that you weren't sold on your haircut straight away because it is not exactly what you had pictured. The picks you have posted are what you want......go for it, it will look fantastic and you will love it

IKWYM about tucking behind the ear, and the longer the layers the more I find my own hair kind of pushing forward and I want to tuck but then don.t find it comfortable either!
I like the way you are thinking of going with your cut- at the moment it might feel like a shorter version of same-old?
Your inspiration pics look different in a way that could be quite arresting and fresh.

Your current style is gorgeous and flattering, but I think the shorter style will be a little more fun to play with. The light and dark shades as shown in the profile sample photo look very modern to my eye. Looking forward to your results.

I have gone through all this angst you are having. I love having short hair, but now I fear I will look drawn with it since my face is starting to sag. I get that "not yet old" thing. I can see this short cut being a "signature" for you, something to embrace! Your face is awfully pretty. I say go shorter on the back of the sides AND even blonder and RATE.

I think you are on the right track and I totally see what you mean about wanting to have the sides "hold" themselves back more instead of relying on putting it behind your ear. It looks like a really good plan for tweaking and I can't wait to see the results!

I love your shorter do...it is very chic! I think adding long layers and more shaping would definitely modernize it and I like your inspiration photos! As for short hair being aging, well, I'm biased because I think well style short hair is very modern and chic!
