Hair experts: pixie cuts and fine hair?

I've got baby-fine hair, and normally I wear it in a layered bob. But lately I've been really drawn to pixie haircuts and think they'd really suit the shape of my face.

But will fine hair work in such a short style? My hairdresser says we could make it work somehow, but she's much more open to crazy ideas than I am She says she'd do my colour differently (currently blonde foils) and that I might have to re-think my accessories, etc because it'd change my proportions a little.

Most days I dress in a smart casual style that veers towards tomboyish at the moment (loving the boyfriend jackets with Cons), and I'm not very curvy. Generally I don't mind this, since I know I can always get into a dress and heels whenever I feel like it. But is even shorter hair going to take away one of my few feminine features?

So, will a) fine hair and b) tomboy style look cheeky and stylish with a pixie cut? Or will I look like a teenaged boy who clippered his own hair?

Someone please tell me if I should give up on this idea or start looking for pics to bring to my hairdresser

The photo Ljubica linked to is the exact photo I brought to my stylist the day I got my pixie cut.

My hair is very fine and a pixie cut has been just the thing. If you have the inclination and a stylist who's really good at precision cuts (let me say that I picked a stylist whose work has a wonderful touch of girlishness to it, no matter what the cut. She just has a lovely feminine touch which is so necessary with a pixie cut and ensures that it doesn't veer toward dowdy), I would give it a go. Exciting!!

I have very fine hair and the pixie cut worked well when I had it. You definitely have to make other things a little more feminine when you have one - earrings really help as does makeup, but the right cut can look really girly.

i think dusty is right. the right cut, like michelle williams, is very girly. plus, i like the juxtaposition of the pixie with a touch of lippie or gloss (or tinted chapstick if that's all you've got) and tomboyish smart casual. very downtown/hipster vibe (unless hipster does not have good connotations for you.)

the tomboyish smart casual (feminine fabrics or cut, some drape, bf jacket worn with scrunched sleeves) all read as feminine not masculine.

Aw, Michelle Williams looks so sweet! That's very encouraging, as is the fact that Dusty and Laura have actual experience with fine hair and a pixie cut.

I don't usually wear makeup, but I'd be willing to invest a bit of time in developing a quick routine - a natural-ish lipstick and a bit of eyeliner/mascara could be okay. I'm sure I'd be saving a bit of time on the hair styling anyway!

I did wonder about earrings - I don't have pierced ears because in general I don't do pain in order to look good. But for the first time in my life I'm a little bit tempted. I've got the most ridiculously small earlobes though, they just kind of go into my head without the lobe part (they're ever so slightly pointy too).

I love that Michelle Williams haircut. I don't have fine hair, and my hairdresser has to spend about half an hour thinning out my hair.

Regarding keeping the cut feminine, I don't particularly like a overly feminine pixie cut and then to go for really short back and sides because it looks more edgy. I don't wear earrings either... but I make sure that my eyebrows are always in good shape.

I have a very short pixie cut and fine hair too. It works extremely well - but I do suggest colour. It brings out the texture. I have a very choppy razer cut and the upkeep takes me back every 5-6 weeks.

No earrings, distinctive brows and moist lips add to the look!

I'd think fine hair would be the perfect texture for a pixie (but of course I'm not an expert) - I have thick hair, and I got a pixie cut once. It was a disaster - my hair stood up on top and made me look like a scrub brush!

I have fine hair and a version of a pixie, as well. I think it really works- and fine, straight hair like mine is not easy for find a style that works well. Like Angie- I don't wear any earrings, and I don't have a particularly feminine style. I think it would work really well for your overall style- your face is very feminine, so no chance of looking like a boy.

This is very encouraging! At the moment I get a trim every 8 weeks and a colour as necessary. So 5-6 weeks doesn't sound too bad. I had no idea so many people with fine hair had this style - it always looks like thick hair to me.

Distinctive brows might be an issue, though - mine are all over the show. I like them, but they aren't my most polished feature

Has anyone got other photos of people with fine pixie cuts? I'm stalking the profiles of all of you who mentioned having them, but if you've got a preferred hair photo let me know.

The lady's are correct. fine hair works particularly well for a pixie..best actually. Some added highlights for texture and dimension and you are looking like a super star:) Just look at Angie, Khris,Dawn and Laura for inspiration!!! All superstars!!
