Angie’s hair growout project has me thinking about how much our hair can influence our style and vice-versa. I know many of us have become lower-maintenance with our hairstyles since the pandemic.

In 2019 I had an asymmetric cut that exposed one ear, with my base color dyed to dark brown to pretty closely match my natural color but hide my greys, and a series of colored streaks, mostly blue and teal, placed low towards the ends of my hair on the side and back.

Three years later, the dye has been gone for two years. I let it all grow out and chopped carefully at the layers myself to let the asymmetry grow out. I resumed occasional salon visits to shape up the layers and keep the bangs under control.

Now I have what I guess would qualify as a salt-and-pepper shag. I don’t know what comes next, but I’ve been slowly migrating to more layers in the top and more length on the ends, to maintain the shag-like shape (no triangle head for me, please!).

I am always interested in keeping my hair current or ahead-of-the-curve.
It’s funny, even as a teenager I was more of an early adopter of hair trends than of clothing trends! I feel like it’s even more important to feel like my hair has a real *style* now that there is so much grey. I get compliments on the cut from others, most frequently from much younger women, so I feel like I must be doing something right. But I’m starting to think about what comes next, and I’m short on ideas.

I admit, I miss my old dark hair. I look older now and it’s not just my hair, but heck, I AM older now, LOL.

How has your attitude and approach to your hair changed in the last three years, if at all? Is it a lasting change, or are you going back to old ways?
