I have a question about hair colouring.
I started to colour my hair when I was young in my pre-teens and going forward. I don't recall ever having any significant issues with it. I stopped colouring my hair at one point several years ago. I decided one day after much deliberation on getting highlights and what colour I was interested in. I went to my sister's hairdresser on her recommendation to get it done. I went to see her 2 weeks ago with my dark dishwater blonde incredibly straight "virgin" hair from root to tip. Remember, I have not used any type of colour on my hair in several years. I decided to go ahead with a rose gold peachy colour. The woman foiled my hair with bleached blonde highlights and then washed the colour out. She took me back to her chair, and I at first sight thought that she used the wrong colour because I had blonde highlights and not the rose gold peach hue that I requested to have put in. The woman tells me that she had to put a toner colour application on now so that my hair would become that rose gold peach colour that I requested. She made up a colour mixture that looked like orange pudding, and she applied it to my hair all over where the blonde hair was. She said that the colour would only grab where the bleached hair was. After all of the colouring process, the cutting, drying and incredibly light styling which consisted of blow drying with a brush and spritzing of a light hold wax spray from Redken, and the final outcome was very wonderful to my full surprise. I had the bland dark blonde all around the back and sides and on the top that bland colour had beautiful rose gold peach weaved through. The woman had a considerable amount of the orange pudding leftover, so she wrapped it up and sent it home with me. She told me to wait one week before my first washing. I rinsed it though 2 days later in just cool water. No problem. After that I just kept it brushed and used no products on my hair of any kind. Last night, I applied that orange pudding to my hair first and waited 20 minutes as instructed. I rinsed it out and then did a light washing using only the Redken Acidic Bonding shampoo. I towel dried it and let it air dry on its own. I go to the mirror and run a brush through my hair. I was mortified by what I saw. There was absolutely NO trace of the rose gold peach or even the blonde she put on first! I have never had this happen before nor do I know of anyone else that I know have this happen to them. Why did this happen? Did I wait too long to wash it for the first time? Was the Acidic Bonding some kind of industrial power washer that pulled ALL the colours out in that first and only washing? I'm rather upset about this and have intense disappointment with this outcome. It was by no means cheap either (3 digits followed by an odd change amount. 200+). Something went wrong somewhere, but I don't know who or what to start with the problem. Mad at the hairdresser or myself? I forgot to mention that I am a 46yo dude with a full head of strong hair, medium high thickness texture. I'm a very very young looking guy still, not any facial wrinkles or jawline or throat sagging. Very firm face with thankfully no eye wrinkles around my eyes, no "11" lines or forehead wrinkling. No work done on myself of any kind. Is this something that I should go back to the hairdresser about?
