I have the Shark Flex Styler and I can say without exaggeration that it changed my relationship with my hair, lol. I’m 48 and while my hair is “thinning”, it’s basically at where your average fullness would be. My hair is not oily or greasy. It frizzes easy but not as much as when my body was still youthful and restoring itself, lol. I hated blow drying my hair, I would have to use a flat iron to get it smooth! I regularly go a week without washing it, I have lots of grey hair at my temples, and it definitely needs some loving care if it is going to lay nice and flat (or curled, but smooth in either case, lol.). I splurged on the Shark 3 years ago and I actually grew my hair out long because it was so easy to dry! My hair is about 3 inches from my waist and it only takes me 10 mins to dry it - this is after it’s air dried for a few hours. Maybe 15 mins if I’m trying to get it pin straight. It might take 20-25 mins from right out of the shower. I have the diffuser (I like to use that on my dutch braids when I’m trying to set in beach-y waves), the concentrated nozzle, the auto wrap curlers (tedious but amazing alternative to curling iron!), a paddle brush and an oval brush. It’s 100% worth the cost! And I haven’t touched my flat iron since I bought the Shark!

Also, I use Kristen Ess products, mainly because that’s what my QFC stocks, and I love her workable hair spray: it’s a heat protectant and a hair spray!

I haven’t played with my hair this much since I was a teenager! The photo I added here was after I blowdried it with a round hair brush (regular) + the concentrator nozzle to keep the frizzing down. My hair is nowhere near this sleek and shiny when it airs dries! I used a Color Wow product that makes it unbelievable soft and keeps it from getting frizzy from whatever the weather is doing. It’s like putting a sealant on a raincoat. I can’t remember the name, but it’s in a chrome container. I bought the mini size and only use it a couple times a month. Much cheaper that way. I hope this helps!

My hair is course and curly, and took forever to blow dry. Then, I needed to flat iron it to get the ‘poof’’ out. I was ‘influenced’ when Helena wrote about finding the Revlon airbrush an easy to use tool - and it was a game changer! Quick and easy to use, and no other tools needed - if I want a simple, smooth style. I use a leave in product called ‘Set it Straight’ before drying and nothing else.

FWIW, I let my hair air dry curly (with a leave in curl product) in the summer months, and dry it straight during cold months since I don’t want wet hair after swimming, and I wear a hat so much of the time.

Jessica, your hair is beautiful! Thank you for your comprehensive review and explanation of the Shark features. It sounds like a really great tool to have. The Kristin Ess product sounds like a winner too--I'm going to look into that as well. I'm just beginning my search but if the shark has just a brush dryer, I'd consider. I have a blow dryer already. Just too lazy to use the round brush consistently.

Thanks, Carla. I thought it wast the Revlon. Thank you for confirming. I've read mixed reviews on it --that it gets too hot so I wasn't sure. I think a lot probably depends on the user. I'd use it for mostly dry hair - just to tame.

The shark brush sounds intriguing! Do you know if it works well on thin hair?
i have the revlon brush but find the barrel a little on the large size for my thinnish hair. Im now using BaBylissPRO Ceramix Xtreme Ceramic Hot Air Styler Blow out Brush, ( now that’s a mouthful) and finding it works better for me. Of course im always in search of the holy grail of hair dryers!
I’m not using the revlon brush and would happily offer it to you Kelly. Sadly it’s probably cheaper to buy new than pay for postage from Canada. We are travelling to New York in a couple of weeks but I think you’re quite a bit further south.

Thanks, Merwoman! Lol on the Babyliss Pro CEXHASBoB! Haha. I saw a Babyliss at TJMaxx but I don't recall the model. Thanks for your sharing your experience with the Revlon. Postage to CA probably wouldn't be worth it but I so appreciate the offer!

I bought the Kristen Ess heat protector--they had it at target and I had to pick up an RX. I will try that first and see if that makes a difference. I'm thinking that could be one of my problems since my hair routine is pretty much just wash and dry...

and works great but I only use the Ceramic thermo brush attachment of Ø 38mm for giving a smooth bend to my hair which is much shorter than yours (same length as Carla's I would say).

Merwoman: what size is your barrel? I also find mine (the Ø 38mm) too large for my thinnish hair. Would love to achieve not only a bend, but some volume on top or some curls to hold on my lengths, too! The problem is, that all the smaller barrels have air comming from the trunk as well and blowing the heck out of my shorter, thin and fine hair and get a frizz all over without any hold or style!!!
So frustrating! I don't need air flow comming from the trunk (where the barrel is attached) only from little holes on the ceramic barrel itself which is never to be find in a smaller sized barrel (say Ø15, Ø19, max Ø25mm) does somebody have something similar?

KELLYGIRL if you just want to tame hair shouldn't you be using an iron rather. I LOVE my GHD. No other iron works like it does. In summer I air dry, apply protectant and do a brief and light iron for taming. No damage is done. As soon as I use hot air, as in hair dryer, I get split ends. I was getting split ends my entire adult life because of blow drying. Who knew?!

This is frightenning to beginn with, Lise!!! Whaaat? Blow drying to damage hair??? Maybe in cases of extreme heat (??) I only knew the ironing is worst of them all....OMG....

Lyn my barrel size is 32mm. As recommended by my hairdresser, I use Goldwell root boost spray prior to using the air brush. My hair has slight wave naturally so I just try to work with it to enhance it.

LYN67 I know, complete opposite of what I believed too. The GHD reaches very high temp almost instantly so I only need to run it through once or twice really quickly. No damage. Contrary to what we think. With hairdryers a combination of heat and blowing air causes split ends For me

Hi Kellygirl - yeah, I've tried a lot of dryer brushes, multistylers and hair dryers. My issues are baby fine hair which has about 20% silver. I've gone from wavy to actually curly which is hugely frizz prone, but as I hate, hate, hate curly hair hair I must make it straight. When I went natural 5 yr ago (covid I'm looking at you) I found that the single process color had thickened the shaft, helped with frizz and decreased curl. I've tried a bunch of tools and this is my experience - ymmv ofc -
1. Dyson airwrap - I did not use the curling tools. But the brushes are silicon which do not grip the hair at all it was a mess to work with and I could not get hair smooth even with the smoothing tool. Plus I found I got more frizz.
2. Dyson dryer - frizz city. Powerful but my hair looks like a rats nest.
3. SRI has a compact dryer which is supposed to decrease frizz. Did not work for me
4. Sedu - fried my hair. frizz city
5. drybar - any and all tools that are yellow. Burned and ripped my hair. from the flat brushes to both dryer brushes.
6. T3 airbrush - frizz, too hot, returned
7. GHD flat iron - great tool but I try and use rarely as per my hairdresser
8. GHD brush - ok gets really hot. Can't use on wet hair. not great
9. Drybar reserve 3 in 1 - https://www.drybar.com/drybar-.....SZjyit5YAu Best tool for smooth, no breakage, no frizz. I only use the round brush. The little balls at the end wear off and the brush lasts 1.2 yr and they do not sell a replacement. But desperate is as desparate does. Nothing can eliminate summer frizz. It's hard to get the bangs perfect on some days. Fast dry. Easy to use. Light. Way too expensive for what it is but it works. I do use the K18 system, all of it, which also helps. I find this brush gives less volume but pay off is much less frizz. I hate drybar. Their CS sucks. If they have a sale they often do not give you the price by arbitrarily cutting off time not specified in marketing. But I can't find anything else that works as well. I'm pretty sure my situation is particularly fussy so you may not need to dry that amount of cash, hopefully. Hope this helps. GL on the hunt. Hair is finicky. Never know until you try.

@Lise. Thanks. You have a point. I thought the brush would add body and tame the coarse hairs so my hair isn't so flat.
@Gryffin. Thank you for your reviews! You've tried quite a few! Interesting about the heat. I think higher heat works better for coarse hair like mine - at least that's what I've discovered using flat irons. It also sounds like product helps. I am going to try that first and then go from there. And another rave review for the GHD flat iron. I may have to look into that too.

It has three settings: warm, cold, and hot. I never use hot as the warm setting is plenty. I do not have a picture handy. My hair is chin length and I dry it in wide strips. I get what I call "newscaster/politician" hair with body. I have had it for about a year, and I love it.

I have tried many hair brush dryers, and I keep going back to the Baby Bliss Pro dryer. It works for my hair. I often let my hair air dry. If I am going somewhere special, I let my hair dry to about 80 to 90%, then I use the hair dryer. I sometimes run the flat iron over it to smooth the top layer only. I don't use the flat iron on all my hair.
My hair is very healthy, and I don't see any damage from the dryer brush, but I don't use it that much. I am currently using Aloxxi hair products, but I have used many hair products. I can't say I see a huge difference. They all seem to do the job.

I used one of the flat ones for a while but tossed it cause it got gross. Hair products got on it and it wasn't easily cleanable. Plus despite all the effort my hair flipped up Maybe the rounder styles are better.
