I want my hair to look like photo 1 ,2. But no matter who cuts it always looks more like #3. Only this look on me looks like a bubble head. How can I get my hair to just be down straight. It is not curly, just looks puffy.

When your hair is almost dry, blow dry it straight down from the top… that’s what I’m thinking. Use a flat paddle brush to brush it straight down.

Now I have to tell my story about the student stylist. My stylist had a student and I agreed to let her do the blowout part. My stylist gave her instructions not to do the bubble head thing and that’s exactly what she proceeded to do - only the bubble head part was at the crown of my head! Ahaha. Looked so bad. Gave me lego head. I could see her doing it inspite of herself. She used a round brush and kept brushing up and under, rolling the brush. My stylist tried to fix it, but it really couldn’t be undone. Lolol!

I agree that blow-drying is probably the way to get 1-2, unless your hair is naturally stick straight. But it’s possible to get cuts that turn under by themselves. Maybe a good stylist could reverse that, or do a cut designed not to curl.

You might try Aveda Smooth Infusion products, they straighten hair with out using weird chemicals. Bumble and Bumble Blow Dry Straight is a blow dry product to consider if you don’t like the Aveda products. A beauty supply store will have samples.

Have you tried using a flat iron? That straightens very effectively. You can put it on a lower or higher setting to get a straight or SUPER straight look.

I invested in a spendy leave in straightening conditioner, and after I blow dry, I flat iron (using a heat protection product that I spray on.) A careful blow dry gets it straight, but full. Flat ironing knocks out any puffiness. It’s quite the process (time consuming) but this winter, for the first time, I’m achieving a salon level straight blow-out.

Seconding the paddle brush- perhaps watch some you tube videos on how to use it to dry hair straight?
I have had hair cut this in the past, and found it still tends to twist or curl if it hits my shoulders, so over the course of the day it no longer sits the same.

You have some good advice. Use a flat iron and heat product. Don’t forget the under layers.

Flat iron and a smoothing product. Tie up your hair on top of your head as you do it, starting with the underlayer first. I do three layers at a time. Ironing the under layers separately first is important to get mine not pouffy.

I completely sympathize because I have a similar problem. Like you, my hair is not curly and I use a flat iron to smooth it out even more. But instead of laying close to the head I get more of a triangular puffy look, which looks lovely on Anna Wintour but is not my preference. I’ve tried various stylists who shape my hair trying to achieve the desired look, but invariably I end up with the triangle. One product that has helped with taming the volume is Olaplex No 6 Bond Smoother. A longer cut also helps.

Seconding the paddle brush and flat iron recommendations, and pulling the brush straight down (vs. curling under at all) when you blow dry. Also your styist might be able to thin your hair out a little to help it lay flatter. Good luck with it!

When your hairdresser cuts your hair, makes sure they thin out the ends evenly. Certain techniques will cause the ends to flip under instead of lay flat.

Yeah, I think a straightener is the answer. Unless your hair is naturally stick straight you won't get that look without some help.

If you have very thick hair like me, ask them to use thinning sheers a bit at the end of the cut — it really helps to take out that volume that gives us the bowl shape.

I wish I could advise you, but I have no solutions. I have that same problem, because of my cowlicks & the fact that my fine hair will never hang straight like that no matter what I do. I can blow dry it & put products in it from now until the cows come home, but my hair simply will not hold a style for more than an hour tops. I now have a layered bob that’s stacked in the back, parted on the side, with no bangs. I never blow dry it, & people have complimented me on the cut.
