H&M's Marimekko collection - YouLookFab Forum

I looove H&M's new line of Marimekko prints. I don't think they are everyone's cup of tea, but I feel like they add a really fun and funky retro element. I love Marimekko and I was VERY pleasantly surprised to pass by on 51st street and see the window full of colorful prints. The collection can be seen here:

There's a lot of volume and not so much structure, but I don't mind that so much since I'm rather straight on top anyway. I tried on the first top (in different colors than they have displayed) and loved it, but didn't buy it. I didn't try on the little jumper dress (#8) but I wish I had now. I bought #13 and fell in love with #16, but all they had left was a size 34 which was a bit too small I'm going to check every other location I can to see if they have a size bigger. I was surprised that it looked so good, despite the high neckline and straight cut. I also bought a knit top in that print. Not a bad outcome for only $39. It's very cute and cheerful, so do check it out. Even if it's not your style or wouldn't be flattering, it will make you happy.

I like the fabric and colors. But what's up with that first bathing suit? Is it a maternity suit?

Yeah, some of the cuts were certainly not easy to wear, but if you do find a way to wear them, they look amazing. I agree that I'm not a fan of that bathing suit, but I can't help but smile when I see these fabrics and designs...whether I would wear them or not. Somehow I think making them structured would ruin them.

Those prints are so cool! I like the print in the #13 the best, but I don't like the shape. Actually, I don't like any of the shapes other than the long halter dress.
Maya, was the knit top that you bought fitted or also voluminous? I'll have to go to H&M and see if they have any of these prints in something that's fitted.

The B&W knit I bought is a bit more fitted and looks great with a belt or as a layering piece, but they're all pretty voluminous. I don't think I saw any fitted garments. The thing I liked about the tank on the first page is that it was fitted in the shoulder and then just floated away over my skinny jeans, covering up all my problem areas.

If you're willing to shell out serious cash, you can buy from the original Marimekko collection, but it doesn't come cheap. They have more fitted pieces as well as voluminous though.

I love those prints! None of the cuts look like they'd work for me (and we don't have an H&M in Seattle yet anyway), but I sure wish there were more clothes in such bright and playful prints. Have fun, Maya, I'm jealous!

Oh God NO! I love the style and the print, but I could never a gazillion years wear anything so puffy!

But I am thinking of giving this top a go round...it has longer sleeves, V neck, and it's kind of a print...what do you think? Too Full???

Okay. I'm relieved. You need really broad shoulders to pull off those puffy sleeves. I've had it on a few bodies over the last few months, and that’s my conclusion.

Do you mean the shirt that reminded me of the H&M Merimekko line requires broad shoulders? Or the second one that I'm considering requires broad shoulders? I do have broad shoulders--broad everything actually. My concerns with that Calvin K. top are the sleeves and the print. I'm hoping the length of the sleeve will allow the volume to work with my fuller upperbody. The print is hit or miss...if those curliques are in the wrong places, it will just accentuate my own curliqueness!

The MK top is cute! I guess my shoulders are too narrow for it though (if that is indeed the top Angie is referring to, which I think it is, because the CK top doesn't really have puffy sleeves).

The sleeves of the MK top are too voluminous for your bustline despite your broad shoulders, Nicole. This I know you get! Sorry for the confusion.

The CK top could work. It’s clingy fabric, but you can be the judge of that. It might cling in all the right places.
