Guide dog School Capsule: on to loafers!

Hi all,

Thanks to everyone who weighed in on the purchase of sneaks. I received my SAS Freetimes today and am already very impressed with the arch support. And TBH they don't feel anywhere near as dowdy as some of the comments in past posts led me to expect! I'm going to test-drive them in the next couple of weeks, but I think those plus a pair of slip-on Ecco blush quilted Softs should get me through.

But I'm very partial to versatile, lighter flats, as many know. And I've long wanted to fill a wardrobe hole by finding a pair of pretty loafers or ballet flats or slipper flats in a lighter colour for spring/summer wear.

I've heard all kinds of raves about the Emilines, and they're actually available in Canada, so I'm considering these. What do you think of these gold ones? How do they compare with the bronze, and which shade looks prettiest?

There's also this Naturalizer flat that I know Angie recommended in a previous "fab finds" list. The idea of a pointed toe really appeals, but what's the embellishment like? And how does the bronze colour tompare to the Emilines above?

Ecco used to have a pointy ballerina in gold, which sounded perfect, but it's no longer available in my size. I am very open to any alternative suggestions I'm overlooking!

Hmm. The gold are a very shiny, very yellow gold, a bit like Christmas tree tinsel. They also seem to be open-weave. So very very casual. To be honest, I think of you as more elegant. I fear they’ll look cheap with anything other than boyfriend jeans.

I much prefer the bronze for you and your wardrobe.

I also love the tassel pair. The tassel pair have a good visual weight. My only concern is that they might compete with other accessories.

I really like the bronze naturaliser. Elegant and simple. They look comfortable too.

The gold look a bit too much. The shoe with the embellishment look a little bit too much and I’d be concerned about the wear of the embellishment and whether it might curl up after use.

I prefer the bronze as well. I have them in black and find them quite comfortable although I did get a heel blister on the first wear due to no stockings. What I love about the shoe is how simple they are yet still make me feel put together. I bought mine at The Bay but you can order direct from Naturlizer Ca. I also purchased the Morrison sneaker in white. I just got it yesterday so have yet to try it but it looks promising and you can put orthotics in if needed.

Both of the bronze shoes look more pewter to me rather than brown bronze. The gold ones are light gold- more champagne than yellow gold. They have a woven sort of texture-that makes me think of an outdoor rug, but not in a bad way.
I prefer the Emilines to the embellished ones. The embellishment reminds me a bit of a horse show bridle where the forelock is. Its like fingers pointing towards the toe.

Emilines in bronze for the win. I agree the colour is not a true bronze, but neither is it a true pewter to me eye. Somewhere between pewter and champagne! I have somewhat similar skintone to you and find this colour very useful as a great neutral that goes with just about everything. I myself have something similar to the Ellis, but I wear them with winter/transitional menswear looks. For spring/summer and overall versatility I definitely prefer the Emilines.

I prefer the bronze, also. I wouldn’t have described them as bronze, but like the color a lot. Rachy’s description of the gold was perfect.

If the Emilene's come in wide, you're in business. BRONZE!

ALSO, I think you should consider Birkies. (Not that I'm bossy or anything....) They also come in wide. Stylish, very Euro, good look for you, and excellent for your feet. I've provided Finds in the right colours: metallic tan, pewter, silver, white, muted pink.

The link to the Emilines shows a shoe that looks more shiny silver than bronze ( dark gold). It may just be my screen because the Naturalizers look more pewter ( dark silver) than bronze. I like the 5th shoe (Clark’s ballet flat) that Angie linked to above. It looks more like pewter than bronze if I see the color correctly, but that is a versatile color.

I really light the gold Emilines. I think the texture adds interest and the gold color isn't too yellowy or brassy, its more muted (though obviously it's a little hard to tell from a photo). I think it comes down to your personal taste but, to throw you a curveball, I'd go gold.
