Grey 'sweatshirt' blazer -- yay or nay?

I know lots of you have fleecy blazers in various nifty colors, but what do you think of plain grey? I'm looking at one in the 'boyfriend' style, with turned back cuffs, etc. It seems like a great item in many ways -- warm, comfy, yet more polished looking than an actual sweatshirt would be. And it's definitely better looking than my current "schlepping around the house" items.

But I'm not so sure about the grey color. Does that make it look too casual and sweatshirt-like for actually wearing out of the house?

I know what you mean about grey. Personally I can't really wear it as it makes me look really washed out, but as you're a blonde it may look awesome. Do you currently wear any grey?

I can see from your profile pic that red looks really good on you, so maybe the grey blazer with red scarf, white T and jeans would be a good place to start. I don't think the colour would make it look too casual, it would be all in what it's worn with :0)

I do ok in grey, at least I think I do. Honestly I find it hard to detect when people look "washed out" by particular colors unless it is a very dramatic effect.

This winter I have acquired several grey things, including a suede jacket, and I have a jean jacket that was once black but is now grey. My only grey cardigan is a pretty sad shapeless acrylic thing, though, and I envision this blazer functioning in a similar way but with a little more style.

Mander I think that is a great jacket. You can add colour and dress it up or down.

Mander, I have an older Tommy Hilfiger one that I really like. The last time I had it on I wore it with a denim shirt and magenta color scarf. I look forward to spring because I will wear it more when I don't have to bundle it under a jacket.

I think swap your sweatshirt for this jacket... It sounds like you would use it for same purpose, grey is already in your wardrobe, and its really versatile as others have mentioned in being able to mix loads of other colours from reds, purples through to oranges and greens as well.... Nice choice I think!

I, too, don't like loads of grey near my face, but I love it as neutral. It can be paired with citron or yellow for a modern look, cobalt, navy, black, denim, orange.....the possibilities are huge. I say go for it!

Sadly it's another eBay thing so I won't know how it fits until I get it. It came from a catalog place, too, so no in-store trials.

But you guys encouraged me so I went ahead and bid on it. We shall see!

Well it's a notch up from a grey sweatshirt pullover for sure. Do you have a bright blazer for spring? With your coloring I'd think there would be a lot of colors out right now that would look fantastic on you.

Personally, I think I would go for a darker, more charcoal grey. I do think that grey is a good slightly more casual alternative to black, esp. for a blazer which can look very businessy and formal in black.

The tailored collar, I think, makes it not sloppy and capable of going fairly formal. I love it!
