Grey or brown? Help me decide

Being my usual undecisive self, I need help deciding which color of NAS boots to keep. Right now I have them at home in both grey and cognac color (long story how it happened).
I wear a lot of neutrals - grey, black, white with jeans. Also some blues and greens, and overall cool colors. The grey boots are part of the palette and I do like monochromatic look. The cognac color is very pretty and brings in more contrast. I have a dark green trench coat and I am not sure about cognac color with it - somehow I get hunting associations from that combination. I am also not sure about wearing it with cobalt blue.
I took pictures of both colors with my non-black coats and would appreciate any thoughts! (Black looks good with both IMO). Scarves are accidental, because most winter ones are tucked away. Sorry about the picture quality, I hope you can make something out.

I vote grey, if only because they look amazing with your red coat.
Are both an option? They look great on you and if you're anything like me, you live in boots during the fall and winter months. I could see how both colors could be nice to have.

I see your dilemma. Both look great and it's hard to say which is better! I want to vote for grey, but if all your other winter shoes are black, I'm almost inclined to say brown!

I ordered these in the cognac - still waiting for them. So of course, I have to vote cognac. The gray is fine but as pointed out, pretty close to black. If it were a lighter gray, I would say go for it - because then they'd be fine for spring.

Also I think your red coat isn't a cool red. Looks more like a warm red to me, but that could be the photo.

And, as you mention, the cognac gives you wonderful contrast! Looks totally fab with black.

But really, whichever you decide, I suspect you'll be happy!

Seriously though i can understand your fears about the cognac with green trench, i avoid that combo too I get 'tree' feelings about it. I'm drawn to the grey x

I'm voting cognac. The green trench looks almost black to me. I tried these boots in grey too and for whatever reason, they just don't do it for me. Strangely, I think the cognac is much better with the red coat than the grey. And if you're concerned about green and brown (I would be too) just wear your black shoes with that coat.

Shiny, you have a good point about lighter grey. And there is also a danger on grey overload for me. The red is not warm, but it's more like true fire engine red.
I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the cognac boots irl, I just don't know if the whole warm-cool color thing applies to boots. I think Jean brought up something along these lines before.

This is a very tuff call. I think I tend to like the grey a little bit better. Do you have other boots that you will be rotating?
I love cognac boots but for some reason I was not interested in this style in cognac. I got black.

Hmmm, I wouldn't be able to decide either - they both look great! I like the grey better but then again, my personal preference is for shades of grey or black in just about everything so I might be biased. It certainly sounds like grey will fit seamlessly into your "cool" wardrobe so maybe the cognac will help you push the envelope better.

You can't go wrong with either choice. They work with all the jackets and scarves - both of them. I would vote for cognac if I had to.

Hmm, this is a hard one. Plus I also ordered the cognac ones and I wonder how they'll go with my red trench (it's darker and more "cool red" than yours). So I may find myself in "your" shoes, Marianne hehee

I like both colors with black. For some weird reason I prefer cognac with red. I hope Jean weighs in on this.

Tough call but I am voting cognac! They are a warmer colour and look marginally better with all the coat options. Hope you manage to make a decision, if not keep them both lol!

I love brown, but, in this case I vote for grey because it is more versatile for your wardrobe (I don't like to see the brown mixed with black pants).

I wear a similar color palette, Marianne -- lots of grey, black, and cool colors. Having bought a pair of chestnut boots AND greyish boots last year, in my experience, the chestnut gets worn more. I was surprised about that!

Chestnut is a beautiful contrast with black and grey and cool colors. I vote chestnut.

Wow, tough choice!! Like you I normally wear black/grey as my neutral. However the light brown boots I bought 2nd hand earlier this year have def. got a lot more wear than my new black boots. I think its because I have so many manily black pieces, and the brown boots lighten the look somewhat. Having said that, I love the grey too (and currently have a pair on order myself). Are there similar styles you have seen and liked in either colour? I say keep one colour and find a similar style in another!!!

I’m voting grey because I feel I know Marianne a little better. She is a monochromic gal who does not wear brown. Hands down the grey. Get a Cognac jacket instead :0)

As a cognac girl, I vote grey for you, Marianne. Cognac is too far away from the rest of your palette and I think you look better in cool monochrome. It is a very chic look. Cognac is more earthy and boho-(like me?)

I was thinking that if I keep the grey boots, I would get a cognac crossbody bag. Would I be better off sticking with cool colors?
