Grey and other dark colors

I went to grocery today and after finding a parking place sat in my car a few minutes. I had noticed this before but today it was so obvious. Everyone I saw was wearing black, white, and grey. The younger women with any color hair. Older women with grey hair looked great in it. I will admit that for the past year I also have been wearing those colors but usually with a splash of color
I am a little tired of it, but I don’t know how to make a change. Also where I live now is a very small rural area. Do any of you have any suggestions for me.
I want to add that I think all of you on ylf who chooses these colors, except me, wear it well. Lol

That's interesting. I'm a bit tired of everyone wearing black coats...but I digress.

I wore a LOT of those colors and added colorful scarves. Or a cami layer. I like dark colors too that don't have a huge contrast. So dark green, dark red or plum... but I also love brown and black and denims with those colors you mentioned.

In my opinion, adding at least one splash of colour to a neutral outfit is always a good idea. You could choose e.g. a scarf/shawl and/or a hat in one of your favourite light/bright colours, perhaps peach, orange, pink, lilac, light blue, turquoise or light/medium green.

And if you look better in warm colours than in cool grey, white and black, feel free to wear your best colours no matter what others wear.

Isabel, thank you. Oh, yes I saw the black coats also. The one I liked most had a faux fur black collar!

Or gloves! Or shoes! There are lots of ways to add a bit of color; no need to spill out the baby with the bath water !

Though my winter coat colours may be sober (grey, navy, maroon) my winter accessories aren’t!

If you wear warm colors best, try shopping at consignment shops. I got an orange ski jacket . Check zippers to be sure they work easily. A warm olive is a good addition. Develop a complement of a bight. Develop a compliment of a flattering color of hat, scarf, gloves, bag, or boots to wear with a dark neutral...or even a white compliment.

In cooler weather, a very bright puffer vest is also a boost.

I think what gets to me is that so many wear the SAME black North Face puffer in my town, lol. We have an outlet, so I guess that’s what happens. It’s somewhat a treat when someone buys a colour. Do you wear puffers, Bridgie? I do think muted, slightly greyed, colour looks nice in winter. Once a customer came into the bakery wearing a bright red coat and it was spectacular, but I admit thinking if everyone in the store had this on, it’d be overwhelming…

I do love those colors as the backbone for my more intense colors, but to wear them exclusively is not for me (I'd feel funereal). A few weeks back my daughter said to me after one of her soccer games, "I can always pick you out in the crowd, because you're the only one wearing neon pink or cobalt blue or something and all the other parents are in black or gray or some other dark color." I can't explain why this was so gratifying.

OMG, Rachylou, all I see at the mall in the winter is North Face jackets! A million of them. I wish I had stock in the company.

I second bright gloves; a relatively cheap way to add color or pattern or sparkle to winter wear. I have bought many a cute pair on Amazon, if that is OK with you, but Kohl's and Target are a great source too.

I wanted to find color in coats but especially in my size it is rare.

I'm guilty of being in black often, but have olive, camel, burgundy coats too What about other neutrals or pseudo-neutrals as a backdrop- then add the pop of color?

Literally the only black hanging in my closet right now - & I'm not sure that they even count, since the prints are so prominent, lol!
So I guess that would be my advice - to start off small*, with a print

*The prints don't have to be as big or bold as mine, don't worry lol!

I have the same issue here - I instead stocked up on plum, teal & chocolate merino accessories (hat/ gloves/ scarf), to help add pops of colour until I could find less neutral outerwear for me
