I have no American Nativie heritage but a great respect for the culture and two close friends who are. My second year attending the Pow Wow at the Mall. I spent 4 hours dancing and having a wonderful time. There really is something special about the beat of the drum and the spirituality of the ceremony.
I loved the story where the MC told the story of how in his tribe instead of feather heads, the chiefs wore antlers. There is a great respect for women as the giver of life, they are thought to be closer to our creator. This meant that if the chief was not acting honorably that the women of the tribe could take his antlers away , removing him as their chief.
