Gray shoes - what do you wear yours with?

I desperately want gray shoes or boots for fall, but I wonder how versatile they are? Would I need to have gray somewhere in my outfit?
Does it matter that my hair is almost black, so I won't have the "bookending" effect going on? Thanks!

I have dark grey Franco Sarto booties from last year, and a new pair of grey Born Yolanda boots I am looking forward to wearing this fall. I generally pair grey boots with anything I would wear black with -- the "cooler" colors, if you will. But I also LOVED pairing brown with black and grey last winter and may try a few of those combinations again, this time with the grey boots!

I have pewter grey ballet flats, and grey ankle boots. I treat them as neutral and wear them with about anything. Mostly when I don't feel like wearing a lot black.

I have grey knee-high boots and grey patent heels and I wear them with pretty much everything. The only color I don't wear them with is grey bottoms (since I don't wear pants except for jeans, I am talking about a grey dress or a grey skirt)--it often feels like too much grey, and unless the shades match, I don't like the way it looks together.

I find my grey boots and shoes to be more versatile than their black or brown counterparts, because I can pair them with navy, black or brown. I personally don't think bookending is all that important, so I don't think your hair color would make a difference in my response.

I have multiple pair of grey and pewter flats and wedges and wear them with all sorts of black based clothing. I love that they are not just boring black, but go so beautifully with it.

I also have a pair of light grey flat boots and I have had a hard time putting together something I feel fab in. I think the lightness of the leather is not as much 'me' as darker grey would be.

I'm watching this thread with interest since I just got my first pair of grey shoes. I keep putting them with black + cool colors, but keep finding that the grey is actually a warmer tone (tending toward green rather than blue). I'm not sure what to do about that.

I hardly ever wear black shoes so I wear mine with anything I could wear black with. I like that the color is not as harsh.

I have Slate Frye Veronicas and I wear them with anything that I'd wear black with, other than my grey tights as they are quite different shades of grey.

I also have grey ballet flats which look gorgeous with any colour pants other than brown- they look especially nice with my dark straight leg jeans

I often ponder the same thing. I saw a woman once wearing a beautiful all grey outfit with OTKs. I believe in the picture of Angie in her grey OTKs she is wearing a grey dress. But sounds like others have found this color to be pretty versatile.

I have grey/silver pumps. I wear them with cool colors (purple, navy, blue, green) and also with brown or black (or both!). Remember you can mix your neutrals.

I have grey mid-calf Star Ling boots as well as grey (well silver really) knee high Doc boots. I find both extremely versatile, probably even more so than my black boots, since I already wear alot of black. I lilke grey boots with black leggings and a black tunic......so comfy!!

I am totally the odd woman out on this subject. I bought a pair of gray suede Stuart Weitzman peep toe pumps that have a suede rose-ette detail on the vamp at the NAS last year. They are beauuuuutiful! As far as I can remember, I've only worn them with outfits with gray. And I've mostly only worn them in the spring and fall, because they look gorgeous with my hot pink toes sticking out. I live in CO, so bare legs aren't an option in the winter, plus they feel kind of matronly worn with tights.

Another reason I don't wear them a lot is that they're suede, and I'm kind of hard on suede. The shoes are so gorgeous (and comfortable) that I want to wear them for years. All of that said, I may decide to wear them a bit more with other colors this year. You all have inspired me!

I wear mine with everything. They are just a lighter, less harsh version of black.

I'm also looking to buy a pair of gray booties or flats this year (maybe both????). I also have dark hair. I would wear them with dark jeans and any color top, specially pastels, if it is a lighter gray. I also like a darker gray/brown combo. From the sounds of it, they can be very versatile. Have fun!
