Gray jacket and boots - YouLookFab Forum

Hi everyone! I hope this finds you all well--I had a difficult summer and fall, so I was away from the forum, but I've been lurking for a week or so, and I've fallen in love with all of you all over again! I hope you won't mind me jumping in with a question of my own, out of the blue.

I thrifted a couple of items the other day, a 'new' grey jacket from Ann Taylor (which came with a self belt) and a pair of black heeled boots (leather and barely worn). They are both in excellent condition and (I think) fit me well. I do not really 'need' either of them, but at the price ($9 total) I went for it.

I am wondering if you think the detailing on the boots looks... tarty, for lack of a better word. And whether the 'new' grey jacket looks better than the old, which is genuinely vintage and in the last picture. (I have always loved this jacket, but I worry that the sleeves are too short for me--what do you think?)

So the questions are: (1) do you like the boots? and (2) do you like the darker grey jacket (the new one) or the lighter one (the vintage one) or both? Do the sleeves look too short on the vintage?

I like the new grey jacket better, because I like the longer length. I also like the waist cinch with the belt.

The boots fit great in the shaft width and height but I'm not a fan of pointy toes myself. Let's see what others say though.

Hi Stephanie, nice to *meet* you! I think I like the new jacket better, if it's a choice of either/or. The darker charcoal looks pretty against your skin, the sleeves and jacket length are a bit longer and waist tie is fun (it mimics the tie on the boots)! The boots look like a really nice, soft leather. If you can tolerate a heel that high I think you can rock them and as long as you don't pair them with black fishnets and a micro mini they won't look tarty.

I like both jackets, but prefer the longer, darker grey one with the ties.

The boots don't look too "tarty" to my eye either.

What amazing finds! Those boots are edgy and killer with the structured, conservative blazer as a counterpart. I like the longer jacket with the ties for this outfit - because it's a subtle echo of the ties on the boots - but both jackets are great and fit you very nicely. The sleeves in the last one are a tiny bit short, but that's what scrunching is for!

I like the new jacket a little better than the old one. I think it's the longer length that does it for me. The boots look good to me too. I think the tartiness (or lack thereof) is all in the styling. They look really good the way you've styled them here.

I really like that new jacket. It does look like a great fit, and as Claire said, the colour also works with your complexion. The old jacket is okay, but seems as if it might work better with skirts and dresses.

I have a bit of a poison eye for pointy toed, pointy heeled boots so don't feel competent to judge, but I will say that I really like that criss cross thing going on in the front of them, and for $9 total, you get the next YLF thrifting award for sure!!

No way are those boots tarty!! The proper words are sexy and hot!! Great find, and they look super with your jeans and jacket.

I noticed one thing, maybe just the photo itself, do the heels need new lifts? If so, get that done right away.

I am personally not a fan of boots with skinny high heels except for night out looks, but that doesn't mean they're not ok! Just my personal style. I agree with getting them some new lifts though.

Thanks, all. The boots do need new lifts, but since I got them for $6, I don't mind at all. I'll take them to the cobbler on Tuesday.
