I had to laugh when I read Angie's 2014 wrap up this morning and she expressed dismay about the color gray (or grey) for herself because I have embraced this color this year!

I already posted a pic from this day in Annapolis in the TopShop coat from NAS, but a full length shot appeared from Danny's camera that shows my gray Furla satchel (even my fab bargain find at BR last month was still too taupe-y) and my grey Clarks boots.
I will brighten all of these pieces up in 2015 with colorful accessories and lighter neutrals, but gray is definitely my new black -- feels softer than black for me right now.

High five, Laurie! I've embraced grey, too. I know it can look horrid on some people and I certainly understand how it might feel dispiriting, especially in a climate with a lot of grey skies. But for me, it's softer than black and I love it.

I'm finding gray is my new black as well. And when I find just the right shade of gray then I am doing a happy dance. I am currently purging all the dreary grays that have a lot of green tones. I find that gray just works for everything!

I love gray as well! I'm trying to not overdo it because with a lot of gray/silver/white hair on my head, it can become too much pretty quickly. And I can't do light gray or I look washed out. But charcoal? I'm in love!

I love grey on others, like you Laurie, Suz, Diane G, Shannon, Debs, Joy, Client Karen and others. Greg looks AMAZING in shades of dark grey. It picks up the shades in his salt and pepper hair and brings out his big bright blue eyes. So to be clear, I love grey on those who wear it well. It made my own worst list as a colour because I don’t enjoy wearing it, and it looks quite grim. Hope that makes sense.

I love gray too. And it's getting easier & easier to wear as my hair grays. The right grays with a green accent make my green eye color pop.

I, too, have embraced gray along with my graying hair and am trying to avoid black. I'm trying to steer DD away from black as a default and even more away from most grays as I think her skin tone is too warm for either to look great.

Angie, I completely understood your comment re gray for yourself - and, the shades of gray (all 50?) definitely matter a great deal too. Charcoal/darker is my favorite side of the color.
Your comment made me smile because it expressed the essence of fashion - there is no right color, no one way to wear something and one person's delight is another's poison eye. I didn't go looking for gray this year, it came and found me. Now, what's in my hair? Another story!

I had the same reaction when I read Angie's post.I used to feel the same way but then I realized that grey looks great with the navys and deep reds in my closet. For me it doesn't replace black, just gives me another option.

HUGE lover of gray here! But I will say that I never wore it until I let my hair go its natural salt-n-pepper. It didn't suit my coloring before that.

Laurie, for me your greys work well together, especially as there are different textures going on. I love wearing grey and how it adds sophistication to brights like citron and coral. It is so lean with white.

Another gray lover here -- it goes well with other neutrals and I feel I actually look healthier wearing it, somehow the contrast gives some color in my face.

I'm becoming a gray lover but need to remember not to go overboard/ need to combine with warm rich neutrals and with fun colors.

My " best" grays are getting lighter, I think- LOL.

I also have purchased a fair amount of gray, but I made a promise to myself not to buy more. I like it for a few essential pieces, like jeans, or sweater when I know I will also add a colorful scarf. I also wear gray eye shadow. It makes my green eyes look turquoise for some reason. The same happens if I wear the correct shade of gray, but that doesn't show up well in a photograph. (At least not my Samsung selfies!)

Gray is one of my neutrals, too, along with black, navy, and most recently, white. I'm a winter, and several shades of grey are part of that palette. I don't like my outfits to contain too much dark grey, though, or all grey and black--it's too dreary, especially in winter. I especially like wearing silvery greys.

Angie, I can see why gray would not be your best. I think it's because you look best in shades that are clear, rather than murky. Like your trademark tomato red, green apple specs, citron. All those are clear colors. So is ink. At least to my eye, but I can be color challenged!

I also have embraced gray big time this year. In prior years I embraced light gray (worn with silver and white) and loved that, but then overdosed on it. Now I'm loving medium shades of gray with gold accents. That combo looks fresh to my eye. I am, however, still grabbing my light grey & white scarf -- I guess probably because it does lighten up an otherwise dark outfit. I'm actually wearing that scarf more frequently than ever, though I bought it back in my light grey phase.

I lost my new grey hat sometime last weekend. So sad.

I have a weakness for charcoal gray myself - and blue-grays. Love the coat and bag! I think it's just a combined matter of personal preference along with coloring of your skin tone, hair, etc. Some days I feel like wearing gray makes my hair look more gray (and I'm sure it IS becoming more gray since I no longer highlight or color it), but it is still a favorite neutral for me too.
