Graduation Dress Possibility - Too Tight?

I bought this Ted Baker dress a year ago and I think I've only worn it twice, because I gained about 10 pounds right after I bought it. Boo. I love it with these shoes and want to wear it to my graduation. Is it too tight? I'll be wearing a cap, gown and hood for the ceremony, but dinner before and cocktails after I'll wear it alone.

I have one other Ted Baker dress that is not too tight at all, but it is grey and I feel like this one is more "Spring" like. Both dresses would work with the shoes (old, crappy iPhone pics of grey dress included)

I do think the Ted Baker one looks a bit snug. The color is killer though. I'm not sure about you, but I am never comfortable wearing something very fitted when I know I'll be going out to eat :\

The gray dress looks wonderful and much more comfortable (whether it is or not I don't know, but it looks that way).

it does look a wee bit tight, but not all over. Are you wearing any kind of Spanx underneath already? I love the color! I think the grey dress could be made spring-y with your talented styling.

It is snug, but not too tight to my eye. Do you feel comfortable in it? I think it looks great! More spring-like, without a doubt, than the grey.

I think the green is a bit snug, too. If you went with the grey (which is really nice), you could spring it up with white accessories. Or yellow.

Did you try a size up on the green dress, Jenava? It could be worth altering because it has killer potential. So nice to see you on Team Brights!

Edit: you already own the dress. Hmmmm. Does it creep up when you walk that you have to keep on pulling it down?

Love the green dress, but yeah unfortunately it's a bit snug even for me.
Congrats on graduating though. Given our iffy weather I think the grey dress will be great.

It creeps up if I twist, bend, etc. If I stand up straight and don't wiggle it stays put...what are the chances of that? Not high!

It is also completely lined, which makes the inside slippery and adds to its creeping.

I am wearing shaper in these pics, but it's old and I would replace it if I wore this dress. Hubby likes the green, but I'm leaning towards the grey (Maya, you are right that the grey is more comfy for sitting, eating, etc).

I would wear the same black shoes with the grey...It is the business school, so grey and black is not in appropriate! (-:

The other thing is the green may stretch out a bit as I wear it...but not sure I want to have to wear it most of the day in order for this to happen!

I am on a diet, so at least I know I'll have a fab dress to wear once I drop a size. (-:

Both dresses are Ted Baker, BTW, and the same size, too! I know the green is supposed to be fitted but maybe a few pounds lighter will make it more wearable.

I LOVE that green, but you look great in both, and I think that *you'll* have more fun in the grey!

It will be wonderful, you will look beautiful, and you can add some bright accessories (do you any citron things?) to make it feel summery.

The green will probably be more comfy later this summer, but you want to enjoy this celebration now. . .

That green dress is gorgeous, but the grey one seems like a more practical option. I think you can wear the green one if you want to though, especially if the shaper you are wearing is old. You look great, it just seems like it wouldn't be that comfortable for sitting in for a big celebratory meal.
And congratulations on your graduation! If it is raining don't wear anything special under your gown--they bleed.

I LOVE the green color on you but I don't think I would want to take a chance on being uncomfortable all night. I know when I'm uncomfortable in something all I can think about is getting home and putting on stretchy, comfy clothes!

The green dress is meant to be tight. I have a dress that I thought was too tight. So I only wore it once, with shapewear underneath. Now I have lost some weight due to being really busy and the dress doesn't look good anymore because it is no longer fitted. If you look back at Marilyn Monroe in the 50s, her dresses fit like this. Jenava you are very close to the green dress being perfect! The only place it might be just a little tight is around the lower hip. And that could be solved with specific shapewear.

If you don't wear it to your graduation, you must create an event to wear it this summer, it is a fab dress!

I think the green dress looks great and as others have pointed out is supposed to be that tight. However if you want something that you can just relax in (and I imagine you will be tensed up a bit with the graduation etc), you're going to be more relaxed in the grey.

I think you can wear the green dress. It's fitted but not too tight! It is too tight to work, but ok to a event.
The green dress is lovely and it shows your lovely figure!

I vote gray dress for graduation! Congrats, btw! You will most likely roast underneath the gown, so you'll want to be as comfortable as possible.

What a dilemma! I love the green dress and think it looks stunning on you, but if it is so tight that you can't move in it comfortably, it won't be right for a graduation. You don't want to feel self-conscious.

If you think it might stretch, what about wearing it around the house for a day first? Just in case.

Otherwise, the grey will look terrific with the right accessories, and can be made more spring-like that way.

And you will just have to find an excuse to wear that green one later this summer!

Love the fun color-just beautiful on you. Have you tried some shapewear, spanks or something similar? That might do the trick. The gray dress is nice on you, but LOVE that green dress!

I love the green, its my color, lol. I agree with Suz, wear it around the house and see if it loosens just a tiny bit. The grey is lovely too though. You will look stunning no matter which one you wear. Oh, and Congratulations.

Congrats! I'm SO DYING over that green dress, I would wrestle you for it right now if I could. But it sounds like you don't feel comfortable in it right now, and I think you would feel more confident if you wear the more comfortable dress.

Thanks for all the compliments and input - I'm leaning towards the grey but still undecided since DH thinks the green is find and has seen it IRL.

I think I'll wait and find an event to wear it to this summer.

If you wear the grey, you might make it more summery with some white accessories. Both are stunning dresses.
