I finally got my gowns from Rue La La. I love the Mac Dougal red crepe gown, but that neckline is ridiculously low on a shortie like me, plus the cutouts show a lot. I wonder if there’s a way to wear a nude body suit or some kind of mesh underneath to hide my body parts. Amy suggestions? I would also have to hem the dress since it’s about 3-4 inches too long.

Hubby loved the striped dress and fit me like a glove. It’s not as long as the red dress which is good. I tried the red shoes. The necklace was something I already had and just wanted to see what it would look like, however I'm still looking for something else. It seems looking through Pinterest, there are no necklaces worn with these off-the-shoulder dresses, just long earring and/or cuff bracelets. Is that the style now?

The only issue I have is my shoulder tattoo shows. Any suggestions on how to cover my tat?

Would love the striped dress taken up and worn with the red shoes on full display, and a red clutch. Kind of fifties.

Absolutely love the striped dress! I mean I knew I would, but so glad it fits and makes you and hubby happy.
I feel like the red dress may not be the right size/proportions for you, even if hemmed, if the v neck and cutouts are falling too low, but it's hard to tell in these photos. I know my sister in law wore a deep v wedding dress recently that had flesh toned mesh sewn in the v, it was totally inconspicuous, made her feel less exposed and I supposed obscured some level of detail, so something like that might be an option?

I think the black and white one is absolutely stunning on you! So I guess if I were in your (fabulous red) shoes, I would pick that one and not deal with the hassle of making the red dress work.

As for the jewelry, I don't mind the necklace with the dress but do you have any fab earrings and/or bracelets you could try with it?

I like Olivegreen's suggestion of the red shoes, red clutch. And it's funny, but when you asked about a necklace for that one, my own first impulse was necklace? Why? Because my own inclination with that neckline would be dangling earrings and bracelets. But then I didn't say so, because it really depends how you are wearing your hair. I think short hair, or hair in updo really would look best with the earring/ bracelet combo. The neckline makes its own statement and draws attention to your face.

I am of Jules's view on the red dress. It seems as if it is just not the right size/ proportion for you and if there's time, I think you can do better.

The black & white dress is gorgeous on you, and I love Olive Green’s suggestion of red heels and clutch.

The red gown is pretty, but the fit is not as good as the striped dress.

Wanted to add, I wouldn’t worry about the shoulder tat showing. Let that and your beautiful shoulders carry the show—no necklace needed.

No necklace. No sporty watch. Red shoes, silver or red clutch, cuff, red lips, pearl earrings!

I am with Angie - I don’t think the red will be worth trying to make work. But the stripe is lovely!! I wouldn’t hide the tattoo unless it is an especially conservative gathering.

I am sad about the red dress I love that one. Maybe also look for other red dresses that don’t have such a low neckline?
I am not quite so enamoured with the black and white as everyone else seems to be. I don’t know why? I also feel sure you would trip on it at the current length. And I would be doing black and white two-tone shoes with it (but then I do already own some).

I'm voting for the striped dress, too!!! Perfection! I think the possibilities with it are endless...possibly even cutting it to tea length in the future for a retro look.

The red is too long through the body for you, I think. Not a quick alteration, either. The stripes are much better, and your husband likes it, so…

Oh, the striped one seems so YOU! Fit is really nice too — just needs a hemming. I agree the red is not the right cut for you — too long and low. I’d go with dramatic earrings instead of a necklace with the black and white. Stunning!

If these are your only choices, I vote for the striped dress. Much better fit and less work to alter (assuming it’s too long). I wouldn’t wear a necklace unless it was a simple choker. Otherwise, earrings and a bracelet, plus your signature red lips, if I am remembering correctly!

Jules- I'm nixing the red dress. Too much to alter. It's too bad because I do love the high shoulders and the vintagy vibe.

Jenny H - I think I'm going to try and find earrings and bracelet, or a fancy watch.

Suz - the more I think about a necklace, the less inclined I am to wear one. Plus, I have a short neck so it might not work out.

Kate - aww thanks about the shoulder tat. It's something I got in my 20s (sun) but not liking it these days.

Angie - Can't wait to start searching for a cuff. We'll see about the tat.

Janet- I'm leaning toward dramatic earring, but if I'm doing a red clutch and red shoes, do I do red earrings or gold earrings? I don't want to be to matchy-matchy. I'll need to find a good alterations place. Ugh.

I like the black and white dress the best but good dresses are hard to find. Alterations, men’s are the best. They know what they are doing.

I agree that the black and white striped dress is 100% a winner on you. I do like the red dress, but having owned a gorgeous dress with a too low neckline, I can assure you it is nearly impossible to fix and you will be self-conscious all night long. With my dress, I bought a very substantial necklace to fill in the gap, and then felt I was wearing a bib.

I also would not worry a second about the tattoo, but if you are, there are good tattoo covering makeups on the market out there. You could look on Amazon or you could talk to someone at the beauty counter who might know.

I'm thinking that red looks great on you but in this case, the striped dress is much more flattering. I might not add much to this as it's such a high impact dress, no indecisive jewelry and definitely no necklace I kind of like the Apple Watch actually.

I'd probably stay with the black and/or white theme for shoes and bag too

I have had black mesh added to a black evening gown, and that worked well. But I would be hesitant to try nude; it could end up looking like a figure skating costume.

Roberta - I'm looking around for something to cover the tat up but I'm not going to worry about it too much.

Thank you all for your input. Unless I find another dress by September 7, the black and white dress is the clear winner.

Try using mesh or a nude bodysuit to conceal the cutouts on the red crepe dress. It will be flawless with hemming. Cuff bracelets and long earrings look great with off-the-shoulder outfits. Wear a stylish scarf or a high-coverage concealer on the tattoo. Have fun!

Late to this but I love the black and white dress! It looks fabulous on you! I love how it is dramatic but not over the top. I agree with the no necklace advice.

Doris Conroy - I think the waist line is a little long on my petite body so hemming may not work. They would have to do a lot of work and may not be worth it.
