I mentioned a couple of weeks ago on IKs thread about how much hair factored in to your overall outfit/style that I'd made an appointment to get my hair cut for the first time in like 2+ years.
Decided I'd try a deva curl cut this time round since I've had some seriously BAD hair cuts in my life because stylists cut it wet and then it curls up like 6 inches shorter and I end up with a poodle "do" (two balls on the side of head and one on top). So apparently Deva curl cuts are done dry and individually by curl to avoid this fiasco.
While I may have super curly hair, I don't actually have a lot of hair and what I do have is baby fine and thin. So one of my biggest challenges is getting it so my scalp doesn't show as much at the crown of my head.
The hair stylist guy did lop about another 6 inches off the length, doing away with the more "tail-like" length --but outside of that most of what he did was some really minor shaping and then used a different product for curl volume and definition -- then stuck me under a hair dryer for 20 minutes so the curl wouldn't frizz. He also pulled my curls more forward than I'm used to (more bangs and the side curls draped forward).
I personally don't think it looks terribly different than if I'd stuck myself under a dryer so the curls would dry with less frizz and more definition --other than the fact he lopped off length and did away with the more U/V shape at the back.
He also talked me out of highlighting it in any way. Saying the color was gorgeous as is and that highlights would only exacerbate the appearance that you could see my scalp. So he gets points for honesty instead of selling me a $200 service he didn't think would look good.
Dunno. I'm not displeased at all with the results but neither am I like "wow" this haircut was so worth the obscene $140 they charge for a haircut around here!
What do you ladies think? I think I'lll probably just get it cut once a year and likely still have a curl expert do it. I figure that cost annually isn't bad and the peace of mind I'll get knowing the guy knows how to cut it without the end result being me looking like a poodle might be worth it.
