gorgeous bag, but not on sale

I was seriously considering this as my big splurge for this year (and I mean next 12 months--not 2011, LOL), but it's not on sale, and I've checked around online. I'm about to buy a coat and, I hope, a couple of pairs of shoes I really do need, and I'm unable to avoid feeling like it's too much. Sigh. Even though I know a good investment handbag is a great wardrobe addition.

It's also shinier than what I'm used to...but I was willing to do the personal style boundary-pushing! There's even room for a laptop.

I'll keep an eye on it, and I hope something equally nice shows up with a little more compassion for my wallet.

On the zappos site, there's this one, a lot cheaper--exact same color...but I don't think it's anywhere as nice a design...

The bag is really cool... I know I've been out of the loop for the last week so you may have discussed this previously. What is the rest of your handbag collection like? I feel like there's a couple of issues with this bag. It can be a neutral but it is light and bright which makes is summery for me. It is also very distressed and relaxed. How does that play with your style and how do you plan to use the bag?

Good questions, modgrl. I have two other going-out bags. One is getting battered-looking. It's ivory, Cole Haan, kind of structured but in a strange way, and as I look at it now, not really where I want my style to go. The other bag I love like crazy. The red Italian bag. I am forcing myself not to buy any more mod red leather bags, because I'm always drawn to them.

I don't need to stick with this exact kind of structured style, and I do want something brown-ish (not excluding other colors either), and the ability to carry a laptop is a strong selling point. (The red bag is on the small side, as well.)

I tend to like distressed or matte leather, and not patent or other shiny surfaces, but OTOH I think I should be open in that regard.

The bag should be fun but stylish and I should be able to dress it down or up to a degree.

(I realize I don't have many bags at all! I never did, but I'd given a few to my daughter, and now I'm down to these two...? I definitely need a few more! See, I work from home and these things aren't always obvious to me...)

I also suspect that the lighting on the bag on the zappos site is making the bag look lighter than it really is.

Oh, Mochi, I remember a wallet in that same line months and months ago - it must be a memorable design for me to still remember it! It's just gorgeous; I, too, wish it were not so expensive! It looks like some kind of natural rock or shell or something. Very cool.
