No more cheap shoes, crummy bags, just good enough for now because it is on sale. I've spent the last few days clearing out all of my cheap shoes that I got just to try out a new style. Loved them all but now they are killing my feet. I might not be able to afford good quality versions of all of the shoes I want, but at least the ones I will buy will last more than a season and they will not kill my feet.

I've thrown out 2 pairs of ballerinas, 2 pairs of pumps, 1 platform and 1 wedge. That's a lot of money down the drain. I would have been better off buying 1 pair of good shoes that I would still be wearing and enjoying.

I hear you! Your feet will undoubtedly thank you, too.

I am saying goodbye to tall heels that look cute but never get worn. Hello 3" and under for anything other than sitting shoes. And yes, that means at least 2 pair that NEVER got worn going out the door. What a true waste.

*claps* I am thrilled with this post. This is the hardest hurdle for most women to cross, but it truly is one of the most satisfying. And you mentioned a very good point - 6 pair of shoes is not necessarily better than 1. Most women probably have at least 6 pair of shoes in their closet that they don't wear, and those shoes were likely a "deal" on paper. Those 6 "deals" could easily be 1 pair of phenomenal shoes that is worn multiple times a week.

Congrats modgirl! I see this as a natural progression in your style journey-- not only have you learned the value of quality for YOUR life and what it will be worth investing in for yourself, but it also means that you have a better idea about your own style right now and know what you will wear to the point you are comfortable giving up variety and cash to get something that you will get a lot of wear out of.

Just don't be discouraged, and give any new shoes a workout tryout before you keep. Even good quality leather shoes for comfort or nicer brands can occasionally be duds--- it happens as part of life, but spending on quality means it happens far less often.

Hooray for your feet! Chances are you've now developed a good enough sense of what you like and what will work that you will make good purchases anyway. So no fear of shelling out for a more expensive pair you won't like.

Good for you! But don't beat yourself up too much. You probably learned a lot about the styles you like and which type (color, heel height, style) of expensive shoe will be the most versatile for your wardrobe. I'm still trying to figure this out. I hate to make expensive mistakes. Cheap ones are easier to forgive myself for, lol!

Yes. I think shoes are sooooooo important to splurge on in terms of quality and comfort. They can make or break an outfit, IMHO, and I don't care what anyone says: you cannot look stylish and effortlessly chic if you are hobbling when you walk :).

Once I decided to spend more on wardobe items my standards suddenly went up.

My old standard: "It fits and it's on sale."
is morphing into: "Would I pack this for a trip to Paris?"

What an epiphany! Frustrating while it's taking place, but a real game-changer for years to come. I've come to that realization about many thins, bags in particular, and I've never looked back!
On that note, though, thank you for reminding me a true splurge s hoe purchase I made last spring...I must start making them earn their keep now that summer is drawing to a close! I will wear them in an ensemble tomorrow come hell or high water.

Yay for getting rid of painful shoes!!! But I do caution you that more $$ does not necessarily equal shoe comfort nirvana. In many cases you are paying quite a lot just for the name. I've seen a fair number of people complaining about both quality and comfort in reviews for higher priced shoes.

Have fun in hunting down replacements!

Comfortable feet are so important, no matter what the cost. (Agree with MPJ that expensive shoes aren't always comfortable though).

Oooh. This is so important and great for me to hear just now. I just threw six pairs of so-so older shoes into a bag for donation!!

Yesterday I tried on an AMAZING pair of boots. I didn't buy them; they were very expensive. But wow, could I tell the difference between those and my cheapies. It gave me pause for serious thought.

You won't regret it. goldenpig makes a great point. Cash does not equal quality, but it does help. for example, leather uppers will always wear better & with more comfort than 'man made', but synthetic soles can be of excellent quality. And comfort relies so much on the shape of the shoe, if your foot needs more cushioning vs. support, etc. You have to research and learn.

I have tremendously fussy feet and will not hesitate to spend $200 a pair if i have the $$$. at the same time, why pay if you don't have to? my husband does the actual shopping, he follows online searches for 15-20 pages to get the best deals and always searches for online coupon codes. He regularly gets items for 30-40% off retail, which really stretches your budget.
