Good News On NAS Canadian Orders! (Updated: Apologies to Non NA YLFers)

Nordstrom is no longer using Fifty One!* (not exactly true, see below) And Canadian (Updated: Sorry non NA YLFers) shipping is now free!** (with conditions) The only "extras" added to my order were the duties and taxes which added an extra 15% to my total--a far cry from that horrendous 45-55% that used to be tacked on to our orders!

I couldn't resist a couple of items on Angie's list: the Hinge Dot Top, the OM Knit Blazer, the Zella hoodie, and the EF Ballet Tee in Dark Tulip (Eileen is my go-to for travel).

Big kudos to Nordies for switching to Borderfree for their international customers! But, oh, how the temptation grows...

*Well, as you can read below, Nordie's is still using Fifty One but now they call it Borderfree--but there is some good news, at least for Canadians--so keep on reading...

**It looks like Nordies is also providing free shipping to Canada if your order is over a certain amount--possibly $150?

As you've noted - the duties and taxes aren't horrendous, it's just that some companies tend to charge a lot for their services. When Mom would order from other US retailers who didn't use FiftyOne - she still had duty/taxes tacked onto her invoice, but it was within reason, especially when there's a good sale going on.

ACK - get the smelling salts - and extra helmets ....

Hey, Suz, this is more along the lines of a service--for which thanks are most graciously received. But Mr. Gaylene is now hovering cautiously around, nervous at the sight of my credit card still sitting out in plain sight. I think he plans to drag me away for a bike ride just to stay solvent.

Oh my goodness! Such great news! I totally don't mind paying duties and taxes, it was just that blasted extra brokerage fee that was so maddening.

When did this happen? because I ALMOST placed an order today, and it went through Fifty One, with a $17 shipping charge... which is why I stopped...

Hm, could this be different for Canada and Europe, Gaylene? I placed my order this morning, and it is still being handled by FiftyOne (well, they are calling themselves Borderfree now, but it's actually the same company). And I still had to pay for the shipping too. (just compared the shipping costs, and taxes and duties to last year's order, and they are approximately the same).

Love the sound of the new loot!-)

Their international shipping policy still says not included in the free shipping. And I just tried a new pretend order, still shipping charges.

Hmm, my DH just looked more carefully at my order printout and the web address at the top of the page still reads checkout.fiftyone.com even if Nordstrom's now refers to the service as Borderfree. But, as long as I'm not paying those horrendous brokerage fees, I'm much happier.

Do you think Nordstrom's finally realized how unhappy those fees were making their international customers? As VC says, though, it's a smart move for them to encourage us to start buying from them prior to opening their Canadian B&M stores.

Anyway, it still is much nicer just to see an extra $35 tacked on to my order, not $135. Now only if our dollar would get back to parity.

ETA: Maybe the free shipping just applies to Canadian orders, not overseas? Boo--Nordie's you need to rethink that strategy!

Looks the free shipping might be on orders over $150.00 Maybe that's why they were charging you?

My order was around $230 CD, so that might have triggered the free shipping, at least to Canada. I was so astounded that I probably should have checked a bit more carefully before assuming it applied to other international orders.

Charging shipping costs on a smaller order isn't unusual, but still it would be nice if they could keep them reasonable--many US companies seem to be able to cover shipping with a fee of $10 or less. And, while I'll accept duties and taxes as the price of living in another country, I really can't see the reason for those enormous brokerage fees.

Hope y'all saw that a Nordies will open up in Calgary on Sept. 19, 2014; in Ottawa and Vancouver in 2015; and two in Toronto in 2016. I know waiting is hard, but at least you can rest assured that lower shipping is in the works.

Now when will Danier open in the U.S.?
