Fans of 'Call the Midwife', 'Downton Abbey', 'Foyle's War', and 'The Crown' will enjoy the recently released book by Jennifer Robson titled 'The Gown'. It is an enjoyable bit of fiction woven around real life events in post war 1947 London. The main characters are two embroiderers working at the fashion house of Norman Hartnell when that house gets the commission of making then Princess Elizabeth's wedding gown.

This book is an enjoyable easy read and though not without some shadows, would make a good choice for a book club needing something on the lighter side.

I'm off to find the biography of Norman Hartnell titled 'Silver and Gold', having had my interest piqued by the sketch of him from 'The Gown'. Has anyone read a good biography of Dior (who is also mentioned in the book)? Any good biography's of other designers that are also a good read?
