Gommage exfoliators?

I have dry, sensitive skin with some redness on chin and each side of nose. 2 different beauty stylists from Nordstroms recommended I purchase gommage exfoliators. Even tho I own and use my Clarisonic both insisted that was not enough to properly exfoliate. Can anyone shed their knowledge/experience with this type of product please. If you have used them, any you can recommend? The Nordstrom person recommended a Guerlain one that was $65.00 which I am willing to spend if it is really worth it or is there a good lower priced one if such a product is really needed in my life.

I never heard of it. Searched an online skincare forum & couldn't find much.

Two sites I looked at don't recommend it for sensitive skin.

I prefer an AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) exfoliator. Mine is from Paula's Choice. My skin is too sensitive for the scrubby kind. Did the SAs explain why they recommend that specific product?

Is interesting because it doesn't have "granules" in it. as most exfoliators do..its like a smooth gel

Both woman said it will do a better job sloughing off the dry skin on my face and it is gentle...I tried it and did not react but its just hard to believe it does something the Clarisonic does not, thats why I asked on the forum

Yonka has a beautiful gommage mask/exfoliator . I've had a tube going several times on and off over the years. I'd buy it more often but it's not stocked very widely here. I am rethinking my Clarisonic these days - not sure if it's doing more harm than good, even though my derm/dr sells them too. In fact, now that I've written this, I am going to drive out to the only spa I know that carries Yonka here and buy a tube. I love the smell

I am a firm believer in Caudalie's products - and do not use a Clarisonic. I exfoliate twice a week, and have very sensitive skin. I can't handle retinol or alpha hydroxys.

I have similar redness issues. I don't use physical exfoliators, but alternate between Paula's Choice BHA and salicylic acid products and Retin-A, with lots of moisturizer either way.

la Roche posay line has good reviews for roseacea prone skin.

Cksridonic may be too abrasive.

Seconding Angie: I love the Caudalie gentle buffing cream. It is very gentle on my dry skin and leaves it feeling exfoliated and fresh.A little of these products goes a long way. I also like their cleansing foam, which I wash my face with at night. Thanks for the recommendation.

I have very sensitive skin. I do not use a clarisonic. I have heard some negative things about them and I am not taking chances. My skin takes too long to heal for injuries. I do not exfoliate. I have used AHAs and was okay with them but why chance it.
My skin looks pretty good. I do get eczema from time to time (from eating those little oranges at Christmas that I am allergic to so why do I eat them). I use the products the Derm recommended.

I am also curious as to why they would tell you to exfoliate even more. My skin gets really dry in the dead of winter and it get very sensitive. Though not like yours or Angie's it seems because I can handle Retinol and vitamin C. I use a glycolic acid pad once a week in the winter, though I think that I could do two if needed. I feel that there is ALWAYS new technology popping up and we get overwhelmed an confused. If something has been working, I believe in sticking with it...therefore,
with all that said, it sounds as if the Caudalie may be the way to go.

( I have also read the one of THE best exfoliants is baking soda ! )

Isabel, baking soda is a bad exfoliant not because of the texture but because of the pH - it's quite basic and anything that has a high pH strips your skin. You actually want to use slightly acidic cleansers etc. on your face because your skin is slightly acidic as a protective strategy. Anything between 5-7 is fine for a cleanser or physical exfoliant.

njw, I haven't used a gommage exfoliator but I think the idea is kinda neat. However, if you're already using a Clarisonic and your face is red, I suspect that you're overexfoliating, not underexfoliating. If you really want to try the gommage, I'd stop the Clarisonic use first.
