Goldilocks and the 3 Brooks Bros Shirts

I finally took the plunge and ordered 2 BB fitted shirts, one in white (4P), one in black (2P). The 2P pulled across the top button, but the 4P fit great. The only problem is that I really want a shirt that buttons all the way up, and I didn't realize that the fitted shirt does not. Too bad, b/c it's perfect in every other way.

Should I exchange for the "tailored" or the "classic"? I like the idea of a more fitted shirt, but I worry that the "tailored" will be too tight on me. Does anyone have experience who can advise? At least the exchanges have no shipping charges.

ETA: sorry I haven't been around much. Work has and continues to be a bear, no pun intended.

Is the only issue with the one you like the absence of button and buttonhole? That would be an easy fix at the tailors.

Kim, good idea, except that the placket is cut with a slight "vee-ness" to it, so that won't work.

I wondered about that, the picture was hard to tell. Bummer... still, if you love everything about it, I think I'd deal with the lack of upper buttoning.

Hmmm...it's a very expensive shirt, though, so I'd like it to be perfect in *every* way.

Sarah, a couple of years ago I decided I had to check out the celebrated BB white shirt for myself and spent about an hour in the store trying on every style they had.

I ended up concluding that at least for me, the ones with the slight V neckline like that fitted one that you tried were by far the most flattering. I ended up buying one that had front gathers at the bust- don't know if they still make that model or not.

Anyway, it may be a trade-off: either buttons all the way up, or more flattery. Of course YMMV. Good luck with your search!

Ooh, I really don't care for those types of shirts that have that V and don't button all the way up! I say exchange for the tailored, Dr. Goldilocks! I believe that Angie wears that cut, and I think I recall her saying it wasn't all that slim-fitting.

It's great to see you--I know what you mean about work hitting hard right now! Somehow everyone and their dog wants to set up a meeting in January!

Definitely try the fitted, since it doesn't hurt to find out if it works.

If it doesn't, you could buy the classic and get it tailored.

Jonesy, I looked at my schedule for next week and just had to laugh. I'm not sure when I'm going to find time to go to the bathroom...at least I worked at home today, which gives me the feeling that I've somehow got things under control, even if I never even made it to the really important things on my list...

Don't forget, with the new hairdo, you can POP the collar!!

I say go for the less fitted classic one, maybe. I think if you are going for something with this classic vibe, you want it to be the real deal, know what I mean? But Angie will have the very best advice.

I have 3 brooks bros button ups, I bought them when I was much less cognizant of the silhouette of my clothes. Probably the classic fit which is perhaps hard to style if you are looking for that tailored fit. I think they are best belted or tucked into high waisted pants for my current desire of a clean slim silhouette. If they were new today I would probably return, even though my husbands of the same brand wear like iron. Pic are on other computer, if I can kick said dh off of it I will post a pic of two days ago belted shirt.

Sarah, I wear the tailored fit and it still isn't all that tailored! But I like the fit for the purpose it has in my wardrobe. These shirts are not statement pieces - they are "outfit glue". I have 3 of them in white and they are workhorses.

If I want to wear a statement white shirt that fits as if it was made for me, I wear my Anne Fontaines.

Try the tailored fit!

ps. The brooks bros gotta iron them (not wrinkle free) shirts I have the cut is quite different so if this is something that gets pressed at the cleaners anyway you might consider those (presuming they still make them)...

Thanks. Angie- I do wear my button downs mostly under jackets and sweaters, so it does make sense to have a fitted shirt. I will try the tailored!
