I was WAITING for your post, RunCarla. I'm high fiving you on Sandra Oh, who looked STUNNING in every outfit. I loved her hair too.

I didn't find the red carpet fashion meh, actually. More "risks" and variety than usual. Here are my faves - no particular order.

Good ones, Angie. Yes to Judith Light and Jamie Lee Curtis (your pick, Bella) in columns of white. Liked the teal dresses (Amy Adams had one). Loved the colour of Gaga's outfit (and hair) but didn't like the dress. I was looking for exuberance and colour but found too much black lingerie style, peek-a-boo lace, smushed Mary's, straggly hair and harsh looking make-up. It could be the lighting though...

Carla, I agree ... For some reason I found the red carpet and the show itself pretty underwhelming. My favorite was Kaley Cuoco in her California-cool look (navy and white, yay!) and Taraji Hensen in her modern, sleek look. And Regina King is one of those people who could wear a paper bag and I'd still think she looked like royalty - she has a natural strength and poise that stuns every time.

RunCarla, and Helena, FWIW, here's my two cents:

The awards ceremony was tame, safe, pc, and kind. AGREED. It's just what our turbulent world needs - a bit of healing. I found the show healing, (as far as celebrity award ceremonies can be healing, of course!)

The bunch of attendees and winners were as diverse as I've seen it. Diverse in gender, age, ethnicity, role, and body type.

Loved seeing the incomparable Christian Bale win - he's SUBLIME - and how he took the mickey out of the speech giving thing.

Loved seeing Rami Malek win.

Loved that Bohemian Rhapsody won best movie, although BlacKkKlansman taking the award would have sparked as much joy.

Carol Burnett gave the best speech of the night. 85 and as impressive as ever.

Disappointed that Adam Driver did not win Best Supporting Actor, and that Amy Adams didn't win either.

Loved that Lady Gaga won Best Song. Hard to top her!

I'm always disappointed when my favourite TV shows don't get mentioned

The mens make-up was better than that of the women! Women generally overdid their make-up last night, and it did not look good under the lights and cameras.

I can't get used to messy hair and high pony-tails with ball gowns. I'm too traditional in that respect.

Sandra Oh and Julia Roberts were the standouts for me. Sandra looks amazing. The hair goes so well with the outfit! And as much as I’m generally not a jumpsuit fan, I love Julia’s take on it in a red carpet event. It looks comfy!

Angie, couldn't agree more about the tone ... As hilarious as Ricky Gervais is, more snark is definitely not what's needed at this moment in time ... I LOVE Sandra Oh and her comments about being seen were powerful. Cheers to diversity in all its forms!
I think to me the show didn't seem overly well produced ... I don't know, it was a bit choppy or something. I can't quite put my finger on it. As to the fashion, I love some of what's posted here today ... I must have had chiffon goggles on last night ... All I could see was fluffy chiffon and fuss!

Helena, you crack me up. And AGREED, I thought the show was a bit messy. The audience continued chatting, eating - (and drinking ) when the hosts were doing their thing. There was a lot of noise in the background. It lacked that crisp and professional formality, for lack of a better way of describing it. I guess it complemented the messy hair...

But I did enjoy it!

I watched the show, but didn’t see any red carpet coverage beforehand. I did see a slide show on the NYT. 1-4 were my favorites.

1. Emily Blunt - beautiful modern lace. I loved the shoulderline.
2. Elsie Fisher - fun and funky for a 15 YO
3. Janelle Monae - metallic pill bottle cap hat! I liked this but think it would be improved if all of the white fabric were eliminated.
4. Lucy Liu - I liked the idea of this dress, but would have preferred it if the underdress had had more harmonious colors.

5. I couldn’t believe this: Sam Elliott is pictured with an unnamed woman. I assume she is his wife, Katharine Ross. Anyone remember “The Graduate”?

Oh I really loved Michelle Yeoh’s outfit...all those greens! I was in heaven.

And surely she won the award for Best Accessory — her stunning emerald ring. It’s got a back story: when the props department for the movie Crazy Rich Asians presented their idea of an emerald ring to her, she said it would not work. Not good enough! So she owns this fabulous emerald ring and decided to wear it in the movie! And now to the Golden Globes. Wow, it’s really something special.

Great pics, I can't pick a favourite. I love how Gaga honoured Judy Garland with her dress and Michelle Yeoh is so cool. Shelia thank you for the story of the emerald ring, it suits its wearer perfectly.

For some reason, I am not a fan of award shows, but I enjoy seeing the fashion photos afterwards. I’m always stuck by how many women look uncomfortable in their outfits. So what a breath of fresh air to see the ease of Julia Roberts’s pantsuit. And Danai Gurira could wear a sack and still look fierce, but I like her look very much.

I love that it was such a colorful and diverse event!

The highlight for me was the MEN. so pleased to see color, texture, pattern, shine (to quote Stacy London). Mahershala Ali, Ben Whishaw, Michael Jordan, Idris Elba, Billy Porter!

And Regina King, of course. I loved Lucy Liu's dress, but suspect that was the Liu factor distorting my vision. I also thought Nicole Kidman would have benefited from a different color. That oxblood looked so heavy.

Angie, thanks for your insight about the safe, kind feeling of the runway. I thought the winning titles were also fairly safe (as much as i love Rami Malek), but had not considered the clothes in the same way.

I am with Janet - I never watch them - but I like the clothes - and I do keep an eye on which films or shows are honoured. After hearing about Weinstein's tactics over past years I am skeptical.

I love Sandra Oh in the white dress - just stunning.

Octavia Spencer is always so gorgeous. She has such an eye (or her stylist does)

Julia Roberts looks terrific - and relaxed.

Huge Olivia Colman fan and she looks wonderful here.

Charlize Theron has a few natural advantages but she has an elegant look that I really admire.
