Glasses opinion? - YouLookFab Forum

Like some others of you, it's time to update my prescription eyeglasses, and I had the appointment yesterday. It was easy, and they let me try on frames, and even pull down my mask to snap pics of what I liked. I gave them my current frame and asked for recommendations for frames with a similar shape.

I also asked to try contacts, just to see if I like them. (I got a 1-week trial. So far I hate them, and want to go back to glasses. But it's only day 2).

Would you mind giving me your opinion on the shape, fit and flattery of these options?

#1 - my current frames (I could duplicate them, but I think I'm ready for a softer color probably)
#2 - my top contender frames - go for it or keep looking?
#3 - contacts

I realize my hair back (and after a trim) vs. down (in pic 2) skews things a little, sorry!

The top contender looks great. I'm not a glasses expert but they look fab on you. You look great with contacts too!

I don’t do well with too many options so glad you showed 1! The new pair look really good to me. They follow the shape of your face better and seem to just look “ like you “.

What kind of contacts are you trying? I love contacts. Make things like bike and horse riding easier. I have to have a different prescription for contacts than for glasses.

Another big yes vote here, for the new contenders! When I wore contacts, I also had glasses. If the contacts become comfortable by the end of the trial week, maybe you could use both!

Love your choice for new frames. I don't think I'll ever switch to contacts as I like the way glasses look on my face. Contacts would have one big benefit though, since it appears we'll still be masking up for awhile -- NO FOGGY GLASSES

Agreed that the top contender is fab -- fits well and suits your face. Wearing contacts is very liberating, too, if you decide you like them. The idea of having both glasses and contacts is not a bad one to get the best of both worlds...

Okay, the glasses are ordered! Thank you so much for your input.

The contacts I'm trying are just soft lenses - one with astigmatism correction, the other didn't need it. But my eyes are quite sore with them, and they're difficult for me to get in and out. We'll see if I like them better after a few more days, but I'm excited about the new glasses coming!

Yay for you. I only wore contacts from about age 25-30. Stopped when breastfeeding my first baby as glasses were so much easier to put on and off. Since I’ll be 60 next year that’s another almost 30 years of specs! I hope the contacts become more comfy because it seems nice to have a choice.

I used to wear contacts all the time but for the past 10 years or so they make my eyes dry out and have been very uncomfortable, so it’s glasses for me. #2 fits great and looks fantastic on you, so I say stop looking and buy those!

Agree with #2. Contacts require a level of motivation that I lost in my 30s. (Laser eye surgery saved me from bifocals, but that is another can of worms.)

I wear contacts most of the time, and I like them much more than glasses. They don't fog up in the winter, and I can wear whatever sunglasses I like in the summer (no need for prescription sunnies). If you aren't getting anywhere with the contacts, call your doc back, because they might have other ideas for how to make the contacts more comfy.

Contacts take getting used to, but as Gigi said, they don't fog up, you have better peripheral vision, and you don't cry as much when you are cutting onions. Plus, no prescription sunnies!

(But, like Shevia, I eventually had surgery and now have a version of permanent contacts, which I must admit are a lot easier.)

You look good with no specs, by the way.

But also in the specs! I like the new contenders a lot. Are they fitting properly over the bridge of your nose? Do they feel like they are perching too high or will slide down? In my experience that bridge measurement is key to long term comfort.

I’m late seeing this but am glad you bought #2, which look great on you. I’ve never worn contacts so can’t advise about those. But I wanted to also say how beautiful your hairstyle is in #2; it’s so pretty and extremely flattering!
