Glasses - your input pls :) - YouLookFab Forum

Hi all, I am off to the eye doctor this a.m. and am quite confident the time has come for proper readers. I want to start looking at styles, and I would love your input as to:

- what is a classic, but up-to-date, style of glasses that would fit my adjectives of "classic casual polished" - I'm thinking maybe the Ray-ban Claire Underwood look but not sure if styles have shifted recently

- what would you suggest in terms of shape and color (want to stay neutral) for my face? (VERY candid, horrible pictures attached; apparently I trust you lot haha - no makeup or hair done yet, so this is the real deal :D) These are my cheapo readers that have been getting me by thus far

I like the tortoise shell a LOT, Helena. Stick with that.

Both frames here are ill-fitting

#1 - too droopy and heavy

#2 - too deep

Also like the tortoise shell. Maybe consider adding an angle to the lower part of the lens towards the outside of your face. I was stunned at how much lift and light it added to my face when my fitter suggested I try it.

Try on lots of frames at the optometrist and take pics of your faves to post. I did that and got great advice from the forum. I do like the darker tortoiseshell for you with you hair.

I have some tortoiseshell with pale blue inside. Kate Sylvester is the brand. I really like them. You need to just try on lots of frames:)

Gah! The doc has recommended sticking with OTC readers for now soy eyes don't get lazy ... Which is good news but sucks for style options (as the photos show hah)! I notice Kate Spade carries several OTC styles ... I'll have to start hunting; maybe Winners, Canadians do you think?

The Kate Spade ones in your find (with the blue-ish arms) are pretty fab, if they're the right size for your face. I can't tell how small your face is from your photo, but don't be afraid to try kids' frames if you have a small head.

I've been checking out readers for the last 2-3 years, and am in the same situation, with my optometrist recommending that I stick with OTC readers. (I've also worn contacts for 30+ years, and right now, would rather add readers to those, than other options.) I've been very happy with my Kate Spade readers, in finds. Got them during NAS, so they were a good price, and the colors are fun. They're pricier than the basic drug store ones, but, at least for me, the optics are much better, without going to the expense of prescription lenses.

I agree, tortoise is perfect but neither pair is great for you. I'm picturing, to stay current and to suit you, a slightly smaller version of pair #2, but with thicker frames (if you can square that—a pair that manages to be both smaller AND with thicker frames). Like a feminine version of Buddy Holly glasses. But it sounds like readers are all for now, so at least you can take risks without shelling out tons of cash!

Eyebobs (brand) and Anthro were also recommended. I liked a lot of the Anthro options, and might add a few of those to my collection.

I just got tortoise shell modified cat eye frames that I think would probably work well for you too. I like them because much like the frames in the second photo, they kind of lift up, which is flattering and they're more harmonious with my eye brows.

I think it's a very popular style right now so you would be able to find some that are the right size too, not too wide, not too big.

I have the same Kate Spade Jodie style Kathie has. They are ideal for me as well. Definitely better optics than what I had from the drug store. I tried the Kate Spade Rebecca too: I like the look but they are heavier, whereas I can forget I have the Jodies on.

I think you have some great pics above to try. Some options might be Winners, Costco, loblaws ( they have some really nice options in the optical department).
I used my insurance to have a reader made at Costco.

Definetely try round shapes(like nr 2) but smaller (not that deep) tortoise is great, but you can try colors, too-they can be cheery and fun especially for readers!
