Gift one, buy one?

I've been mostly successful in avoiding the 'one for them, one for me' trap when shopping for Christmas this year. I say mostly, since I did get that cream coat and a cheap top from ON so I could get free shipping. I had thought to buy my SIL some piece of clothing, but she just had a baby in September so I held off. Ordered my mom a top from Talbots, which is one of her go-to stores so hopefully it fits. Nothing clothing for my DH this year or any of the other guys in my life - they're all pretty picky.

How about you guys? Anyone picked up some nice pieces for yourself while shopping for others?

Me. I have bought one for them, one for me (not necessarily, the same exact article, just something in the same store). I've been in the stores at least twice weekly these past few weeks. Everything is just so tantalizing.

When we went to visit family and friends earlier this month, I had a couple of shopping days. I splurged on an alpaca coat that I found while shopping with my mom. They were having a midnight madness shopping night and I think I went a little mad
My mom was quite the enabler, describing it as 'timeless' and it is one of the few items of clothing I've ever bought that I can imagine keeping forever. It's definitely warmer than I really need for our winters but it's so fab and I love it!

I'm finding the shops (or more particularly, the parking) so exhaustingly crowded that I'm not doing much extra shopping for myself. Christmas shopping, taking one of my daughters to do her shopping, and doing the groceries is about all I can handle.

That said, I did pick up some bodyglide yesterday at the mall, as mentioned in Angie's recent post Footwear: 15 Practical Tips & Tricks. I have high hopes of its being useful for running chafing as well as helping me get used to wearing sandals again in our Australian summer.

Yes, and on line. I needed to order for a relative and added cashmere sweater for myself. I wonder if I can resist wearing it until after Christmas. I think it looks great with my Tahari NAS blsck and white vest.

I don't really limit my shopping for myself during the holidays, but I wanted to do most of my shopping for others first. My Christmas budget is always separate from my everyday money ( cash in an envelope). I start setting aside in early November. I wake up Dec 26 without holiday debt. It's my Christmas present to myself.

I was doing good until yesterday. I had only bought a case for my phone and a top. Then I found a boutique that sells exactly my look. I was able to try on quite a few Nicholas K pieces. The staff was interested in my knowledge of the brand and pulled a lot of stuff for me to try. I ended up buying a Nicholas K sweater and capri pants and a thermal top by Wilt. I'm ok with shopping for myself at this time of year mostly because I will be heading into my slow season for the next several months.

My husband does not shop (except for cars and computers). So I'm in charge of my own birthday and christmas gifts, not to mention finding gifts for his sister, niece, brother-in-law, parents, etc...

I like to keep holiday giving pretty low-key anyway, so it's usually just a couple fun accessories or nicer-than-normal body-care products, and whatever useful kitchen/household stuff we need. This year my "big" gift to myself is a soprano ukulele so we have music when we go backpacking and camping.

Keeping a strict budget this holiday since we're saving for a down payment and my husband needed a pretty big wardrobe overhaul for his new job (moving from an extreme-casual jeans/tees studio to a true business casual office).

Umm, it's been three (or is it five?) for me; one for you. Actually, I bought earrings for DD, but their color IRL was not as pretty online. I also bought boots for her, but it turned out that the size the fit me were too big, and her normal size were too small. We will probably go out shopping together.
