Gear heads: Odlo?

So I was in REI earlier this week to start replacing my base layers. As I was checking out, the cashier asked if I had seen the new Odlo line. Apparently REI is the only N Am distributor. The Ceramicool/ Ceramiwool lines actually use finely ground and re-kilned ceramic tiles embedded in the fibers.

Good company -- Scandinavian. I think a larger product range is available in Europe than in the US, so maybe some Fabbers from across the pond will chime in. Pretty cutting-edge R&D -- they were one of the first manufacturers to start incorporating silver ions into fabrics to reduce stink. The ceramic augmented fabrics are very interesting. I know Under Armour was marketing "bio-ceramic" garments that they claimed could help reduce inflammation, but providing a cooling effect sounds a bit more plausible...

They seem pretty interesting.
There were several brands new to me in-store. I didn’t have enough time to explore thoroughly, and the floor SA’s are always thin on the ground there, so REI is usually a targeted-mission shop.

Oooh a new to me gear line! Please report back if you try. I have seen them but haven't tried them.

I need to to just back away from the merino wool - I probably have a lifetime supply of Icebreaker and Smartwool. But did that stop me from buying a few new pieces in Melbourne when I was down under this summer? I told myself that the Kathmandu brand (kind of an Aussie REI) was unavailable in the U.S., and thus exempt from the rules.

I've never heard of them, but glad they're on my radar now. I think I'm set for cold-weather gear, but you never know what I'll discover in a couple of months!

Glad you asked--I'm interested to hear about experiences with this line, too. I came across it on REI when looking for underlayers for bicycling in cold, wet weather.
