Gap tweed moto -continued...

If you remember I was mulling over this Gap printed tweed moto in this thread.
The consensus was that Tall is better than Regular and I also decided to order a size up to compare. It did not arrive yet but I went to the mall and bought size up in Regular in navy tweed: Angie's comment that she chose navy over a patterned one got me thinking that I need compare both and decide which one works better for me (because I am such Angie's shameless lemming!)

This round is a comparison of L regular in navy and M Tall in pattern. They have about 0.5" difference in length. Unfortunately Tall in navy is not available in either M or L on Canadian website

I tried some combinations with my typical late spring / summer items. I will not say what I think for now: I would like to hear your unbiased opinions:
- navy or patterned?
- M (patterned) or L (navy)?
- if navy - is this Regular OK or should I hunt down Tall?

I'm surprising myself here by preferring the Regular one in solid navy. It looks like it fits perfectly, where the patterned one looks a little big to me.

It could be that I'm influenced by the fact that I think the solid color plays better with your wardrobe than the pattern, too.

Actually, I think I need to go order that immediately. I still don't have a navy jacket. So it won't be a blazer. What am I waiting for?

In all seriousness, the plain navy just works more easily with your other things and I actually like the fit of it better as well, from what I can tell.

Isn't it interesting, Marcy because the solid navy is a bigger size than the patterned but shorter length. It may be because the pattern looks visually bigger than the solid?

Yup. Pattern reads "bigger." Strange, isn't it. The darker colour really does recede.

Suz, just get it! It is a very good quality and fabric is great. It is also cotton and lined in cotton so should not be to hot to wear. I am sure you will like it!
They have 30% off today so it comes to $82 or something around (patterned one is discounted to $82 plus 30% off and it comes to $57).

I prefer the navy, just looking at color rather than size. More versatile, less busy, looks very sharp with the cut/zipper.

Oh I really love the navy! It looks like it fits better, and I think the solid colour is more flattering on you too. Somehow the pattern is too soft or diffuse for you & the clothes you've paired it with; the solid navy sharpens you right into focus. (I don't know if that makes sense to anyone but me.) How weird that the navy is a large, because the medium patterned one looks too big for you. I like where the hem hits better on the navy too!

I am not sure re size but may I say the navy is just gorgeous. I think it is more you. It is sharp and smart and immensely flattering . It makes the patterned one look 'blah'.

I had the same reaction as everyone else. The navy looks smaller, a better fit, the zipper details show up more, and it works well with your wardrobe. I also think I like the darker tone of the navy with your skin and hair.
I find Gap sizing to be so inconsistent that it wouldn't surprise me if another large or medium in the jacket would fit you differently than these do.

Another vote for the navy! It seems sharper than the tweed. The color is fantastic on you and I like the fit better as well.

rabbit, Joy, E, Deborah and carambola - thank you for providing your opinion. So far navy wins! As for the insonsistent sizing - the navy IS a bigger size that the patterned, believe me. It is boxier than the patterned one but the sleeves and length is a bit shorter. Actually I think that the shorter length may look better with the boxier fit IYKWIM.

Another vote for the navy! It works so well with your wardrobe and has more of an impact than the tweed. I like the fit of the regular on you and the shorter length is, I think, more flattering.

this is a tough one. seeing them styled i would vote for the navy, but i saw the tweed one in person, and its fab. so i'm going to bench myself.

I prefer the solid Navy, which looks fine in the size that you have, but I think I would like it better if it was in a tall size. If it's too much to hunt it down, I would keep the one you have.

It's a gorgeous jacket, I might have to be a lemming and get one too!

I have to vote navy too - not sure on the Tall as this looks good. Now you made me put one in my cart (loving it with the VC tube skirt that I also have)

I have scrolled through the photos several times now, and here's my two cents:-)

- I think both the patterned and solid are great on you. I prefer the solid navy when you pair the jacket with a patterned top or dress. But the pattern looks great with solid colours on top (and I also love it with the striped top).
- I prefer the shorter (Regular) length with skirts, dresses and cropped pants. The proportions of the slightly more cropped silhouette seem to work better there.
- I believe I'm the only one who prefers the longer length (patterned tweed jacket in Long) with regular length trousers? Perhaps it's more in line with the fluid fit we've been seeing, but I like those proportions better (and the jacket looks fab with your blush and white trousers:-)
- Fit of the Regular Large solid jacket looks good to my eye.

Think I'll actually be a spamer here, thus both are looking gorgeous the patterned (as longer) one looks better with the uni pants(but is good with striped top and skirt, even with the dress in nr. 4) and is reading more springy, a bit more casual, but edgier, too- to me. Of course, the shorter navy matches printed dresses better, and is perhaps a bit more polished. Depends on your prefferences, Sveta...I Know, that was no help, sorry, maybe you need them both:-).

Just clicking through I thought the navy is simply stunning on you. I am going to look again with Inge's comment in mind, but the navy seems like a sure winner.

ETA - In 1 and 8 I think the tweed is great (as Inge said) - how about both!

With the exception of #6 & #7 I preferred the textured jacket -- there is just more visual interest there. However, I do think the sleeves are too long on that particular jacket. So I prefer the fit of the navy but the visual interest of the textured. (Way to muddy the waters )

Navy all the way to my eye - it goes so much better with the outfits you have shown here and seems much more flexible. And it looks great on you as well! FWIW I ordered both as well and def. prefer the navy. My BR navy moto is not going to last beyond this season it seems and I wanted a replacement. Not sure now however as the tag says "dry clean only" and the arms are lined in poly (not good for hot weather). I could try taking out the lining of the sleeves - still deciding on that.

Sorry to be a spanner but I prefer the tweed (with the exception of it paired with the tweedy topped dress.) It looks fresher to me, somehow. I always prefer a longer sleeve length for me, so that's my bias there, too.

I prefer the longer length. Too bad the navy doesn't have a Tall L anymore.
