Tina - no, I don't really see pockets gaping in the first pic - I think the length of your jacket is covering them up a bit. Its just that I've seen these pants in person - and have also seen them on several different people, and because of those side pockets, you're never going to get a real *skinny* look. For example, if you are thinking that you want to wear a tunic length top with these pants - those pockets are going to keep your "look" from being sleek - there will probably be a "bump" or "wrinkle" under your tunic from where those pockets are located.
However, even though I have a "hang-up" about those pockets - I think these pants look really good on you - and are totally appropriate for a 42 year old MOTG! And, they are a great option for a slim pair of pants that aren't too tight. I'm curious, did you try them in one size larger? And if so, what did you think?
I'm thinking about buying them in khaki and then scrunching them up so that they fall just an inch or two below my knee. However, I am going to size up a couple of sizes - I usually wear a 0 or 2 at GAP - and when I tried them on, I was debating between a 6 and an 8. Because I'm planning to wear them more slouchy, the pockets don't bother me - but I know they would if I was going to wear my true size.
