Gap mesh sweater- disappointed

I too jumped on the Gap mesh sweater when it was on sale and ordered it in 2 colors, white and cobalt.

I tried it on quickly and thought it fit fine and I liked the colors so into my closet they went. Yesterday I wore the cobalt one and I was disappointed with it. It seemed to stretch out a good bit and it got quite creased very quickly. I don't mind wrinkles in shirts but I didn't like how it looked in the sweater. It just felt baggy and too thin and just not good quality.

Maybe I will feel better in the white one when it's really hot and appreciate the light weight a little more.

Susie, thank you for this report. Shannon mentioned that hers bagged out a lot, too.

I ordered mine and have not yet decided whether to keep. It is already very loose fitting on me and I wonder what it will look like if bagginess increases. I will try to post a photo later today or tomorrow.

Susie, thank you for your review of these tops. I had been considering one or more. Please keep us informed. I wonder if they soften on washing so that the creasing is minimized.

Susie - yep, I found exactly the same thing. By the time I left work the day I wore the white one, I felt completely sloppy in it. It honestly stretched to another half size larger, if not more. I should have bought it one size down.

I don't often wash a sweater after one wearing but I plan to wash this one to see if that helps. After I ordered it, I had thought I should have probably gotten the petite. But with the first try on, I thought the length was fine. Instead of petite, maybe a medium rather than large would have been better.

I still have the tags on my cobalt sweater and am waiting for the white one in the mail. I definitely could not have gone down a size - too small - but reading these reports makes me wonder whether it is worth keeping mine.

Interesting. My white one is in the mail, too. Suz/Shannon/Susie, if you've got before/after photos I'd be interested to see how badly it bags. Anybody have success (re)shrinking in the dryer?

I have had this problem with a bunch of 100% cotton sweaters - not sure why exactly, since cotton tees seem fine.

I guess it's a good thing I like in a climate where spring/summer sweaters are unnecessary.

Very interesting. I own 4 of these sweaters( 3 have the tags off) so am definitely heavily invested. I've worn the cobalt one 4 times, and a grey one twice. Have not perceived any wrinkling...maybe it depends what you are wearing over top? Yes, I do notice a slight loosening up - but this doesn't bother me at all. Maybe I need to take a closer look? On the flip side, everytime I wear one of these babies I receive positive comments.

Oh no! I just ordered 2 of these because of the sale and rewards. I went with PS because they were too long in the store. Sounds like they grow a lot. Maybe washing will tighten up?

Charmian - unfortunately I don't have any pics to show the bagging.

I have washed the white one and just laid it flat to dry. I haven't tried it on yet to see if there's any difference. I don't mind the wrinkles but I do mind the bagging out. I do believe I bought these one size too large though (I got the Petite Large and should have got the Petite Medium) so that may have something to do with it. I'm not sure if I want to try putting them in the dryer though - then they may shrink small enough to fit my cat!

I did get compliments on it so maybe it didn't look as bad as it felt. It felt really shapeless. I'm just glad I didn't pay full price for it. To me, it feels like a $30 sweater. I've had other all cotton sweaters that feel much more substantial.

I totally hear you, Shannon. My dryer is getting awfully lonely since I've switched over to air-drying, but my clothes continue to look great.

Maybe I'll post some before/after pics after mine arrives!

How odd, I don't know if I've heard of a sweater bagging out before! I'd definitely be curious to see before/after photos if anyone has them, as the two sizes I ordered finally showed up and I've yet to try them on. Would be nice to know what to expect from the material.

I appreciate the report on this. I had been considering them, but I think I will pass. Baggy shirts tend to be very unflattering on me.

Oh dear, I bought one in navy and sized up to medium for a slouchier fit. I haven't worn it yet and am now wondering if I should have gone with a small. I really love this sweater and don't want to be disappointed. I know a lot of us have it and I hope more weigh in with their experience. Maybe I should go back for the small?

I bought my normal size of M and didn't find that they bag out at all. Mine fits slightly oversized but does not pull or stretch out with wearing. I have washed them on cold and laid flat to dry.

Ceit, same here. I ordered my usual size (M) and haven`t had any trouble with wrinkles or bagging.

I wonder if there are different batches, or something. Mysterious.

Oh no! I have the ivory and navy on their way to me because of a sale last week or the week before (sheesh ... must stop online shopping if I can't even remember when I ordered what). They were super cheap, though ... on sale plus an additional 30% off, I think. All together, got both sweaters for less than $40. Fingers crossed these work out!!

I was at my local GAP today and tried a couple of these on - and immediately took them off and just. said. no. The neck on one of them was already stretched out - and the fabric just felt too thin and flimsy. They weren't on sale, and there was no way I was going to pay full price for these. The quality just didn't seem to be all that good!

There's clearly some inconsistency, just as there was with the GAP cable knit this winter. Some people's pilled (mine did) and some didn't.

FWIW, my white one stretched a little bit after three wears at the hem only. Not at the neckline or sleeve or shoulder. So I think that is okay.

I have decided to return mine because of the stretching of the hem. I know it drives me crazy and I can never feel good when my tops stretch out either in the sleeves or in the hems.
