Thanks VC and Manidipa! I'm still thinking on it...but in the light of day, I'm feeling more positive about the Gap BF jeans. I prefer the longer length and I like them with the Sara oxfords. I just need to play with the tops to go with.

BTW - the pink tank wasn't meant to be worn with the jeans - it's just what I had on at the time.

I looked at your pics again and I do think they work well. I think they will be a fun addition to your wardrobe.

"I'm also not interested in pursuing the look just to be on trend. It still has to be somewhat flattering, you know?"

Just wanted to chime in and say I totally understand this! I'm feeling ambivalent about the BF trend for the same reason. I think at this point I'm going to stick with pegging my old one-size-too-big jeans (the ones my stepson mistook for his own!) because I think they fit the balance between participating in a trend and still wearing an item that is somewhat flattering on my body.

I like these ones on you when rolled at the longer length AND with a boxy or flowing top like the denim one in the first few shots. I recently bought BF jeans and although it took a little to get used to the "slouch" I like them now and also have rolled mine just above the ankle (CocoLion - Denise) made the same suggestion for me as for you on this. I definitely have hips and thighs but I am having fun with the jeans! I think they are a cute and very sporty look on you!

May I see both BF styles side by side on one thread, Shannon?

FWIW, I love the Gap style too - but need to see the comparison with it.

The Gaps need to be shortened because the rolls look too heavy to my eye. I'd hack a bit off with scissors if you decide to keep them.

High five, Jonesy!

I'm so glad you chimed in Angie - I have pictures of the two styles in the first batch of photos in this thread. Is that sufficient for your eyes? I'm not sure if my software at work (where I am now....ssshhhhhh....don't tell anyone) will let me pull out the photos and put them in a separate thread and my photos are loaded on my PC at home.

I do like the length of the Gap ones in the second set of photos in this thread, where they are longer.

Ah! So pics #1 to #4 are Gap and the others are the first pair that you bought.

Yes - #1 - 4 are Gap; rest are Alfred Sung. And then the other two with the pink tank lower down are Gap unrolled to be longer.

I prefer the ones from the Gap. The rinse is what does it for me - along with the baggier fit on the thighs. I vote those if they are comfy on the waist.

Can I ask you two final questions Angie and then that's it with this whole BF issue?

1. Should I look at sizing up for more slouch or is this fit fine? They are comfortable.
2. Do you personally think it's a look I can pull off successfully (with the right footwear and top)?

Shannon, I was awake thinking about this last night. I think the issue is mental comfort and eye adjustment.

Think about it this way: I feel completely uncomfortable in fitted sheath dresses. In order to wear one and feel unselfconscious, I'd have to wear such a dress two sizes too big, and that would be a fashion crime and negate the whole point of a sheath dress. So I stick to shifts and looser styles for my own sake, not because I *can't* wear them, but because I can't wear them and feel like myself.

Now in my Gap BF jeans, I feel totally cool, tough, hip, tomboyish, and still feminine. They make me feel like ME.

I see lots of style bloggers wearing these jeans but sizing down one or two sizes to get a tight fit. And that's fine, but it's not really embracing the look, IMHO. Like Echo, I've been wearing my pants this way since I was 18, when I (sigh) could fit into boy's skateboard-style baggy Levis.

I truly think the Gaps fit you just as they should; now it's up to you to decide if you can get used to wearing them. I think you can, absolutely.

I'm so glad Angie chimed in (and high five right back)! And I have to say that I was totally nodding along to Una's last reply--I could have written most of it! I also have a hard time, psychologically, with sheath dresses or other body-con looks, and I've always had a tomboy/androgynous part of my style *and* have almost always worn clothes that fit very loosely. So wearing oversized baggy jeans feels like coming home to me, very comfortable, very me, so it's not a stretch, psychologically, for me at all. But only you can decide if they are *you* or not.

I do think the styling is key too. If you had posted them all styled up, with a loose top semi-tucked, vs. the tank, I'm guessing that some of the naysayers might have thought differently :).

Yay, Jonesy!

Or try my tank and cropped jacket formula, which was a huge hit. You can do it!

Gosh I feel bad that you lost sleep on my account Una! I should have phoned you as I also was thinking about it during the night (lol)!

I'm feeling exactly the same way about the BF jeans as I did when I first got my Wit & Wisdom skinnies - remember how I kept hemming and hawing, and wondering if they looked ok, if someone with my body type could wear them and essentially driving all the YLFers crazy with my insecurities? Kind of the same thing I'm doing here, isn't it?

It's a new shape, a new style and as you have said, mental comfort. I'm enjoying stretching my style wings even though it sometimes causes me stress and when I looked in the mirror last night with the Gap jeans rolled to the longer length paired with my Doc Saras, I saw potential. I want to experiment with this look for fun and isn't that what we're supposed to do?

So I'm keeping the Gap BF jeans, rolled to the longer length and am going to play with them. I'm going to try them with tees, my BB lavender button down, my J Jill silk shirts, etc. I'm going to try them with all my Docs, with different belts, maybe even try a dressy version with my black leather-trimmed tuxedo blazer.

So Una, I really want to thank you. You are always my voice of reason helping me to figure out why I'm feeling the way I'm feeling and my champion for trying new things.

Onward...

(posted at the same time Jonesy - thank you so much!)

I think they look great! I've been wanting to get some. Unfortunately, Gap in Canada doesn't sell talls (like they don't sell petites). Yours fit exactly how I picture BF jeans to fit. I saw a woman wearing some in Costco the other day with a plain t-shirt, cool python looking blazer and yellow loafers and have wanted some ever since. (She was the most stylish person I've seen in Costco, lately...lol--she also had a super fun bleached blonde pixie cut). Anyway, I think the Gap ones are great on you. I'll be interested to see if you decide if you like them or not.

Girl, you know I'm not happy unless I'm fretting about SOMETHING! Seriously, you made my day with your decision. You're giving me too much credit though - I wouldn't be able to push your boundaries if you weren't asking to be pushed. You will end up loving these, I bet. Keep up the pictures as you experiment - it's a whole diffferent style challenge.

I couldn't reply earlier today, Shannon, so I'm late here. Just wanted to say that I really like the Gap jeans on you. You rock them!! Can't wait to see your outfits.

Shannon I have skimmed the replies and I see varying responses so without really reading any of them properly may I say two things:)

The Gap ones IMHO look the best. I really like the dark wash and the cut of these. I feel if you size up they are just going to look they don't fit and add a lot of uncessary fabric to the mix.

Secondly, what's the motivator for wearing boyfriends jeans? BTW I think they look great but I have assessed quite quickly that the true boyfriend cut it not my friend and if I give it a go, it will be with a skinner version because I think it's more flattering on me and is more in keeping with my overall style. Don't get me wrong, I do like these on you, I just wonder how they fit your style.

I would love to see you style these with some Shannon flavours, vintage blouse etc?
