Gap bermudas & Halogen knitted blazer

for your viewing pleasure (or not.) I posted about the bermudas here and the Halogen knitted blazer here .The shorts are supremely comfy but fear they give me diaper butt. I could size down but I'm not sure they are exactly what I'm looking for. I think these (along with midi skirts) combined with my age make me feel totally frumpalicious. I tried to roll them up to make them look more edgy but my thighs are too big for the opening : (

My initial reaction to the Halogen blazer was "return." The sleeves need altering and it is loose throughout the body but it also a BF style. What do you think? Am I being too critical? I should have worn a lighter colored top for the photos--sorry.

KILLER. I think diaper bottom is fine in this case. Love all these outfits. Simple, strong and hip. To me, that equals *power*.

Wowza !! I love it all too ! You really pull off the shorts and blazer look so well. I also vote keep on the blazer. Your shoes are just drool worthy, to me. The last picture is just lovely.

( I don't really see much of a diaper butt...)

Wow, thanks, Angie! I had planned on returning the shorts but wanted to post in case anyone else was thinking about trying them. My eyes need to adjust to this look--I've always worn more fitted bermudas.

Thanks for the approval on the jacket. It is extremely comfy. Grey and olive should be arriving soon--then I'll decide which one gets to stay. Thanks again, Angie!

I think they look good, I think a cute belt with the shorts would look even better.

The jacket looks like it fits good though the body if Angie's scrunching suggestion works out - that would cap off the relaxed feel of the outfits.

OK, I'm going to get out all of my bermudas this weekend and do a bunch of hemming to make sure they're all a great length.

@Rae: The Gap model shows the shorts with a belt. I'll definitely give it a try. It drives me nuts that Gap never shows the top half of the model--but that's another thread.
@MaryK: Glad the semi-tuck didn't go unnoticed : )
@Sarah: You see what I see with the jacket. I'd bust out of the XS. The small is as small as I could go with my shoulders and arms being what they are : )

Oh dear. (hanging head) I am so sorry to be the lone dissenter. =( I completely agree with your initial feeling on both of these pieces.

Both are too boxy on your AMAZING little bod. I like a bermuda, but I feel it should compliment your curves without being too baggy or too tight (IMO bermudas are a tricky fit with leg line).

And I feel the jacket could work with some alteration (or a smaller size which you mentioned above wasn't a good shoulder/arm fit...lawd, I know that feeling, too!). I like your gray BF blazer so much better.

I think you should return and find something even more fab.

I really like the jacket! I'm sort of ambivalent about the shorts...I find longer shorts a challenge too...I always want them to taper just a bit at the bottom so they follow the line of my leg, almost like a clamdigger that's been shortened, if that makes sense.

Heather, no slinking necessary. I still look at the pics and wonder myself. I think I'm going to evaluate my shorts situation a little more carefully this weekend and see if I can learn to appreciate these a bit more. Same goes for the jacket--I'll see what they look like in the other colors. Thanks for being frank!

I think the most important thing is how YOU feel in these pieces! Even if almost all of us think they are fab, if you don't feel fab in them, then back they must go.

Kelly, pretend someone told you that you have to leave for a picnic (or choose your own summer casual adventure) in five minutes. Would you reach for your brand new bermudas or another pair in your closet?

I play this game sometimes when I am on the fence about a piece. It helps me realize sooner than later if a piece may become a NWT orphan. Also, I usually pin the receipt to items like this so that I may calmly (not panicky and hunting down a missing receipt) return in case of buyer's remorse or sudden, utter disgust for something.

Thanks, Jonesy. I've always leaned toward tapered shorts too--that's why I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around these. I worry that if I don't pair them with the right top and shoes, I may find myself in "mom jean" territory.
@Heather: I love your visualization technique! I'll play with these a little more but honestly, I'm not in love with them. I may have to snap some pics of my faves and see if they are really any better (or only better in my mind.) Could be in for a rude awakening.

I really think the shorts look good on you especially because I like how they add a casual touch to more dressy components. I like that mix (dressy/rugged) on you a lot, but it sounds like you just don't feel good in them. Maybe look for a similar pair that makes you feel better about your tucas (I think this is Kristen's word, but perhaps I misspelled it). I really don't see mom/diaper butt, but the coat covers most of it.
ETA: I do think a little scrunching of the jacket is important to make the proportions work, so maybe consider if that is going to work for you in terms of needing to fuss.

Thanks, Scarlet. I doubt that I'd wear the jacket/shorts combo. Honestly, I just threw the jacket on over the shorts out of sheer laziness and thought it looked okay. Here, in suburbia, this combination would draw a lot of strange looks like "Did you forget to put your pants on?" "Teleconferencing (from the waist up?) and so forth. I'm going to think on it for a bit and see if either or both grow on me. Dupa is Kristin's word : )

I like both pieces, Kelly. The jacket would look great with the sleeves pushed up just a little. You have nice, shapely calves so I don't think you need to worry about these looking like "mom" shorts. Just be sure not to wear tennis shoes and scrunched down socks with them, okay?
