Gap and J Crew - Mickey Drexler - Ineresting History

Hi Ladies...

Living in San Francisco, I have been interested in how Gap grew from 1 store to the international empire it is today, so I decided to do some research. The credit goes to the visionary leader that Gap hired in the early 80's, Mickey Drexler.

Mr. Dexler now heads J. Crew, so I found this research a very interesting insight into this gentleman and how he shaped fashion history.

Fascinating reading and welcome, Jamie! I did not know that the Gap initially started out selling jeans only. Interesting about their Code of Vendor Conduct. I wish more companies would incorporate a similar code.

Thanks, ladies for your response! I love fashion and I love business, so this was interesting research for me. Thanks for letting me know you enjoyed it too!

I am actually currently working for Gap - Corporate as a contract employee and when I mentioned this research to a few of the folks I work with who have been there forever, they told me so many interesting stories about Mickey.

In the entryway of my building, there is a 30 foot giraffe made of paper mache and some one told me that it was in the first Banana Republic store! Kinda cool!

Hi Jamie __ You are a woman after my own heart !! I used to read Businessweek and WSJ, etc regularly. So I love this stuff too. Speaking of Businessweek, I remember reading about Drexler.
