Gaaahhh! Summer frocks sleeve/less?

After reading Angie's comment on Amyreh's post of her fabulous new ATL sleeveless dress, I'm thinking both of these need to go back. I picked these up today to replace last year's frumpy Target summer dresses. FWIW, the SA thought they were both equally flattering even though that little voice in my head was questioning her opinion. Should either make a home in my closet?

1-3 are the same, wrap with ruching
4-6 slight cap sleeve

In fact... the more I look at them, I think I have a slight preference for the second dress.

how about taking the second one to the tailor to have the sleeves cut back a bit? It really is a nice dress on you.

Ok, #1 is amazing and you have to keep it - where are these from? I also really like #2, but funny now the cap sleeve is much more prominent when compared with #1 - I hate those pesky cap sleeves! If this dress was a good price, I would keep and see if it wouldn't cost much to change those sleeves up - I am going to think about possibly doing that to my Target dress as well and see if that makes enough of a difference to make it a keeper.

These are both pretty excellent, but I agree with QM's final thought about seeing if the caps can be cut back to look more sleeveless.

EDIT: This is making me think about doing the same to my Target dress, too...

I like #1 better (and it is blue!), especially with the denim jacket. Have you tried to add belt to it?

I don't dislike the cap sleeves as much as everyone else seems to. Maybe I'm just a rube, but I think you look great in both dresses. Take that for what it's worth, which may well be nothing

I really like #1 - of course, I love you in blue. It's your color.

I also like #2. I think it's very flattering on you, and I don't have the same aversion to cap sleeves that everyone else does.

I vote keep them both.

I personally prefer the second dress, and think that you can pull off the cap sleeves, but do think that if it could be made sleeveless it would probably be even more flattering.

@Kim: I think you see what I see. I think the ruching in 1 is making me feel waistless and I liked the fit through the body of 2 better. My shoulders and arms are big and nothing is really going to change that. I do like your tailoring idea but find myself somewhat allergic to taking things in.

@Angie: I'm thrilled to get a K rating on one of these! Maybe I should duplicate #1 in the other print and just consider my summer frock collection done!

@Amyreh and Jen: These are from the Ann Taylor Factory Store. I rarely find anything AT or ATL that fits so it was a long shot. There was a promotion for 40% off dresses--these were around $40 each. The first dress also came in a lovely black/white geometric print. Dress 1 was also available in petites (but I got the regular.)

@Sveta: Lol! Both dresses are purple--must have been the lighting.

@Aida, Stephanie, Steph, Lynn and Beth: Thanks for the affirmation on dress 2! I guess I didn't totally flunk out on the summer dress test : )

Kelly I love the first dress it looks great on you. I think this is my favorite dress I have seen on you. The second one looks good too. I would keep both if I could. What is ANN Taylor Factory? I got the Island Flower dress at ATL and love it. You look so slim!

I really love both of these dresses on you! I love the sleevelessness and the v-neck on the first one, but the second has a great print, and fits you really well too, IMHO. Both look like keepers to me!

@Renee: You realize you are tempting me to go back and duplicate the first dress and just be done with summer dresses, don't you? There is an outlet mall on the way to Costco--I think it's like an Ann Taylor outlet only they don't call it an outlet. I'm not an AT shopper but I think it is a different line from what they carry in the store. (I looked on line at AT and didn't see any of the stuff I saw in the Factory Store.) I can't wait to see you in the Island Flower dress. It's lovely!
@Cilleena: Thanks! Picked up the shoes a couple of years ago at TJMaxx--they are Ann Klein.
@Kim: Yup, that's what I thought you thought! Check out the BR outlet while you are down there--they're in the same section.
@Jonesy: Glad that you like them both. I'm seriously tempted to keep even with the problematic sleeve. I LOVE the print of the second dress--it's a purple spotted leopard. Who can resist that?!

Both dresses seem to fit well and you are so happy to have found prints that you like--I say keep them both. With their neutral palette, they can be accessorized with many colors and fabric options to dress up or down.

i like both prints, but if you have to choose i think the first is better, and more summery, somehow.

Both look very beautiful on you I was drawn to dress #2 more than 1, and I did not notice the cap sleeves until I read your post; so I would imagine I do not have any feelings for them one way or another.

I perseonally prefer them so they can hide my arm pit fold fat from my boob. HAHA. TMI.

I vote #1, the fit is good and the print is nice but not overpowering. I'm not a fan of #2, the print is a tad too large to my eye for tiny you.

First of all, those are the perfect nude shoes. I like dress 1 but it seems to me like you lose some waist definition. Perhaps it is a photo effect? I prefer the fit of 2, I think it is more flattering, but I like QM's idea of modifying the sleeve. I like both prints but prefer 1.

The first dress looks perfect to me. If I stomp on the little voice in my head that fears cap sleeves due to shoulder issues, the second one is also fab. I say have the second one altered as has been suggested. You are looking very trim and fit!
