FYI: Cropped wide-leg jeans with mid-rise

I've been looking around at cropped wide leg jeans -- I'm really interested in this silhouette for the fall. But they are inevitably high rise, which I cannot wear. (The AG Jonis, which are described as high rise, have only a 9.5" rise, which is as high as I can go -- and actually works well for me.) High rises are everywhere. Sigh.

Today I found these at Anthro from Pilcro (whose cropped flares I really like). They have an 8.5" rise and a released hem, and the patch pockets add a bit of military/sailor vibe. When I open my wallet again in October I will probably try these. Just thought I would share, since the wide leg/mid rise is a bit of a unicorn right now.

I am personally very happy with the higher rises, considering my very long torso and long rise, they make me look more proportional.

The return of the high-rise makes me worry. I have no waist and really can't wear them. These are cute although I am not sure about the wide legs, it seems like they would be unflattering on me because of my height (or lack of). But maybe my eye just needs to get used to them. Thanks for posting about them.

I love that pair. The mostly dark wash, the not overwhelming width, and the shorter rise. Now I need to find it in plus.

I'm wearing a pair of mid-rise cropped wide legs right now! From Target, see my Find below. I meant to post a comparison on the forum when I first ordered them (in 2 washes and 2 sizes each, good thing they're inexpensive) but then I got lazy and was honest with myself that the released-hem light wash version was less flattering than the dark wash. Also, do size down even though it's a junior's brand.

For some reason Target waffles on whether these are considered high rise or mid rise. They are definitely not a super high rise though--I doubt more than 9.5" because they hit just below my belly button. I can measure tonight if anyone needs specifics.

Viva, can you explain why higher than 9.5 rises don't work on you? I think that's true for me too but I don't know why!

Kerry, I am short waisted; there is not a lot of room between my breasts and my natural waist. (Angie has posted about a way to measure this with hand-spans to determine if you are average, short-waisted, or long-waisted.) Since I am short-waisted, high waisted pants try to sit up under my breasts (not good!). Also, making matters worse, I don't really have much of a natural waist to begin with because I am a rectangle, so a lot of high waisted items are too tight for me in the waistband. I'm better with a mid-rise, which hits just above my hips usually.

I believe the best bodies for high waisted trousers are long waisted women like Tanya, or normally waisted women who have actual waists (hourglass).

and there you have the reason I pay attention to what Viv says about trousers and jeans ... I have about three fingers from bottom of rib to top of hipbone, short waisted indeed
