Help! Further BR Martin skinny confusion

I'm actually really surprised and impressed to have received such a comprehensive answer from BR about the sizing of these pants:

Thank you for your email and interest in the Martin Skinny Pants, item 760825. We apologize for any inconvenience you have encountered while trying to find the right size. The Martin skinny pant, item #760825, in size 10 regular has a 41 inch waist, a front rise of 12.25 inches, a back rise of 17.5 inches and an inseam of 31 inches. Size 12 regular has 42 inch waist, a front rise of 12.5 inches, a back rise of 18 inches, and an inseam of 31.75 inches.

The Martin skinny pant, item #760825, in size 10 long has an inseam of 35.5 inches, front rise of 9 inches, and a back rise of 14.5 inches. In a size 12 long the pants have a 36 inch inseam, a front rise of 9.25 inches, and a back rise of 15 inches. We hope this information is helpful to you.

But I'm confused.....how can a size 10 have a 41 inch waist??? And why would the rise be longer in the regular, rather than the tall sizes???

why don't you ask them? Maybe its a typing error??

The waist measurement is the measurement of the garment, not the person wearing it. The waistband on my jeans measures anywhere between 28 and 30 inches, and I'm a 26-27.

Not sure about the rise though. The first set of measurements sounds suspicious. 18" back rise? That is one loooooooong rise! I'm sure that is wrong.

Sounds odd...if one is taller, proportionally speaking, it would make sense to lengthen all around...? It's not like ALL tall people have long legs and shorter crotch to waist ratio...Hmmm, I would definitely ask them. ^_^

It is confusing indeed. I take size 30 jeans, so 41 inches would still be nowhere near correct for the 10 I am sure. Anyway good suggestion to ask them - I've emailed and done just that. Don't worry I'll let you know how I go - I mean it's not as if I have raved on enough about these pants yet is it???

Hmmm. Odd. I did have to take in the waist on my pants. It has to be a typing error.

They run true to size I thought. I'd go with a 10. What size are your Club Monaco micro checks, Tam? If they are a 10, I'd go for a 12 in the BR pants.

The CM pants definitely run a whole size bigger than the BR pants. I'd just get a size up from your CM pants.

Angie my microchecks are a 10. I'd say 10 is true to size for me. So size 12 tall then it sounds like? Now I just have to wait until I get paid

Well, I wear a 30 in the David Kahn jeans, but a 41 on a lower rise pant would probably be perfect for me. My actual waist is nowhere near 30 inches, and it's also way higher than where I wear my pant waist.

Okay - I measured MY size 10, regular length, unaltered Martin Skinny black pants again:

waist - 16.75 inches flat, so 33.5 inches around the top edge (this really does not stretch)

front rise - 10.5 inches and stretches a bit

back rise - 16.25 inches and stretches a bit

inseam - 32.75 inches

their 40-something measurement must be hips. . . but mine are only that wide at the low hip - just in line with where the leg starts.

My item number is 687156-00-1 (not the 760825 they refered to), but the pics are identical, as is the fabric content, etc. I got mine last winter and just never needed them enough to get them altered - that's on my list for this fall.

Khris that makes sense about the waist - didn't think of that. My waist is 31 inches but tht is way higher up on my torso above where pants sit. My hips are about 40inches - is that more what this waistband is measuring, do you think?

MNsara thanks again for the measurements!!! So if I take my crotch point, and measure my abdominal circumference at the postion of that rise, that should be the waist measurement of the pants then? A 10 inch rise gives me an abdominal measurement of 37inches....do the pants get a little wider after the waist to account for the hips sitting below that?? And the length of 32.75 sounds good to me....now I'm thinking I wouldn't need to get a tall size after all if I get the size 12 which I assume will be a teeny bit longer (33 inches would be perfect). Argh this is hard!

The pants DO get wider as you go down - nicely tapering out to that 40-inch hip width. They are even a bit wider at the bottom of the waistband than at the top of it.

I don't know what to think about their rise meaurements for the Long. A lot of not-too-low-to-mid-rise denim has 7-8 inch front rises and 13-inch back rises, so this rises higher than those.

Is returning a huge expense? Because you would probably pay the same shipping to have two pairs sent out, but then would need to return one. . .
