Furry sweater - destined to be returned, or made into a vest?

This is a Juicy fake-fur sweater purchased off ebay. It's a little big, especially in the sleeves. The body isn't so bad.

Now, I could return it, but after paying $10 shipping here, then $10 shipping back, plus a 15% restock fee... maybe I should just remove the sleeves and make it into a vest? I love the fuzzy, even if it does make me feel *a little* like a snow bunny trophy wife. What do you think?

Pics taken in my crazy 50's-tile bathroom. Sorry about the toilet sneaking in there... everyone wants to be a star, I guess. And gee, I certainly do scowl when I concentrate, don't I? I'll try to smile next time.

I don't know if it would be easy or hard to take off the sleeves on the sweater. Could you do it yourself? Would the sweater part unravel? I probably would try it and make a huge mess!

It's pretty simple to do so long as you keep the seams intact. Would the body still just be too big?

It's a cute jacket and would be a nice vest, too. I don't think the body looks too big. I agree with shevia that removing the sleeves could be a bit daunting. What about taking in the sleeves and/or shortening them to get a sleeker look in the arms? (To shorten, you could cut off and reattach the cuffs.)

If you do make a vest of it, you could use one to two inches of ribbing from the cuffs to finish the armhole edges. (The armholes are bigger than the wrist opening, but you could put a ribbing seam at the shoulder and at the underarm, and it would look like it's supposed to be that way.) You'll have to show us what you end up doing!

I think it would work either way. Depends if it is worth doing yourself or paying someone to do it. You might be able to find a vest for the same price.

I'm bumping this (sorry if that's rude) because I'd love to keep getting feedback - I'm hearing from friends that it seems too big for a vest anyway. Yes? No?

I don't love this jacket, I think there is too much fur at the top across your shoulders. I would like it if the fur just framed your face.

Something about this sweater is off to me, but I can't pinpoint exactly what it is. I like the idea of it, though. Maybe we need to see it styled differently?

Ooh...I love the MK vest!!! Good choice! Now I'm thinking I should re-buy the Nic & Zoe fur-front sweater vest I just recently returned. (Loved it, but my practical side won out...I didn't think I'd get to wear it enough before having to put it away for the summer.) If I cave it's all your fault, IK.

I'm with Rita, the shape of the sweater looks too inverted-triangle to me - big at the shoulders then tapering in, plus the fur. It needs to fit right and I don't think making it a vest will change that shoulder width issue.
